well, h*ck. half a million meals. that's pretty good. not enough--but certainly something, huh?

thanks to everybody who tossed some money in the pot, shared out the link, everything.

since it's a lot but it's not enough, the link's staying right here: teamfeed.feedingamerica.org/teams/7634
I disagree with Will on occasion and he's never called me mentally ill a single time, but I also do it with my real name hanging out and not from a handle of shitpisser dot machine like half the screamers

I also don't have 1,200 posts in his mentions though like you do, which probably helps
They're not false. You very consistently call the people you disagree mentally ill, and worse. What do you think the "correct" reaction is supposed to be when many of these people are trans, or Black? Why do you think you are entitled to indulge in this behavior?

politifact rates this TRUE
blocking people insane about Will remains one of the most consistent ways to make this website a more pleasant user experience; he draws the maddest fuckers.
i have agreed with stancil and i have disagreed with stancil. he has sharp elbows. but the accusation that he is a raging transphobe is not connected to reality. and the weaponization of "i'm listening to trans people" to smear someone because you disagree about fucking econ polling is disgusting

I don’t like subtweeting people I consider online friends, but there is a subset of people who are very worried about the ongoing radicalisation of our political elite but won’t ever acknowledge the echoes with the radicalisation of their colleagues on trans rights
And few who are sympathetic to us, some who are friendly with me on here, will ever stick their head above the parapet

this is almost flatly untrue, even at trailing-edge tech companies
A thing that I feel has not been discussed enough is that the highly paid IT and infosec guys at any company you care to name all seem to be absolutely insane right-wing freaks with the impulse control of a drunk toddler

I love discourse, especially discourse I agree with
People who already hate AI focusing on the (greatly overblown) environmental impact of AI are giving themselves the permission structure to not examine their own carbon footprint.

Who cares if you're driving everywhere and scarfing down beef? You're a good person for not using AI.

This matches my own experience so far. @simonwillison.net is echoing something I've felt was true to a greater or lesser extent since Sonnet 3.5 -- the newer frontier-type models are consistently not significantly better at Doing Stuff if you are good at prompting and have solid workflows.
Claude Opus 4.5, and why evaluating new LLMs is increasingly difficult
Anthropic released Claude Opus 4.5 this morning, which they call “best model in the world for coding, agents, and computer use”. This is their attempt to retake the crown for …

the really interesting thing here is that the way you control and steer the behavior, like down to the fundamental part of training, is how you talk about 1) what to do and 2) why to do it. it is largely a philosophical problem that happens to have an engineering component

and, you know, if you’re winning, that’s sort of fine, you suck it up and figure out some way to grift

but when you’re losing and flailing and about to get wiped out in the midterms? fuck that shit
