One week until my carbon dust course starts. There are still some spots available. This technique combines drawing and ‘painting’ using a dry brush to apply layers of ground dust to achieve realistic 3D illustrations. #SciArt, #NaturalScienceIllustration #CarbonDust

Today is World Rhino Day!

Sumatran rhinos are the smallest of all rhinos. They are also one of the rarest and most endangered mammals in the world with fewer than 100 individuals left in the wild.

Happy National Dog Day!
With my upcoming vertebrate anatomy course in a few weeks, what better way to promote two things at once. Here’s the skeletal anatomy of a typical canine.

I’m excited about teaching an online carbon dust course this Fall for the Lyme Art Association's Natural Science Illustration Program. Learn this century old technique which can be used to depict many natural science subjects.

Spotted in the wild! While I was creating this Great White Shark illustration for BioRender, I wondered how it would be used in the future. It’s great to see it in a peer-reviewed publication. This interesting research quantifies growth changes in white sharks to aid in their conservation.

Happy 573rd Birthday Leonardo!

Leonardo is one of my heroes for many reasons but especially for his medical and scientific illustrations. If published during his lifetime or shortly thereafter, instead of in the late 1800s, his anatomical works would have advanced medicine by a couple of centuries.
