Big social change really. I remember reading some massive % of the UK workforce were servants until like the 1930s (including my Grandma).

Never heard of communal dining in tower blocks. Maybe in The Barbican idk

The servants thing I need to understand better. Why did it decline after WW2 etc.
edgranter.bsky.social
Yeah although in fairness, it was still a time when governments were like 'lets build social housing to help working people.' Just imagine!

That's fascinating. Lots of mid-century optimism...

Food-banks, corruption, inequality sky high living costs and this is the question at hand?

Solidarity with all trans and intersex people having their existence debated every time a tv host hasn't done their prep and can't think of any more questions

During COVID the number of men non-hand washers fell from about 40% (yes I'm afraid so) to near zero, in my observation. I noticed the other day it was creeping back up.

Leaves do look a bit 'nightshady' don't they?

I did a little 'history of sociology' project once. IIRC, Thatcher attacked sociology in the 1980s.

Outrageous. One of the very first symptoms of a wanna-be) authoritarian regime is their declared dislike for Sociology and Gender Studies. Those are usually the first they go after, as we saw in Brazil during Bolsonaro, in Hungary, etc. It's time to rise. #publicSociology

You can even build on that degree and pursue a career in academia

The advice I give young people on choice of degree programme. Choose something you love. You’ve got the rest of your life to be frustrated and miserable.

Tacit understanding that prevailing US/UK socio/economic/ideological currents are formatted by an interlinked hegemonic class. The top echelon of this power vertical is in the USA and where they lead, we often follow. Hopefully this current non-science bollocks is an exception.

Why are the American president's claims about autism the first item on British news bulletins?

He's not our president, the advice doesn't apply here and he's not presented any evidence to support his assertions.

So why spread these claims? What make this the biggest story in the UK?
