If you're splurging you could add feta. But its expensive, and you get more than you need, so its a good to have a bigger feta plan. But the yogurt does a lot of the job you'd want the feta to do. (end)

Diced cucumber and tomato w dill or mint & some vinegar or lemon juice. Yogurt, potentially fortified with smashed up cucumber or garlic. A large tortilla heated in the oven a little bit. And you have a relatively low cost feast that kind of imagines how the Greeks would do burritos. 4/?

Optional: Roughly chopped onion and peppers in a pan w/olive oil, the longer cooked the better off, doesn’t need much in way of seasoning but oregano/thyme/marjoram work. If not, can use diced sauteed onion w/greens too. Dish is forgiving 3/>

The filibuster/reconciliation cycle gives a majority one bite at their agenda. They pass a pile of stuff instead of a steady rhythm of accomplishments. Hard to unpack. I suspect some of its more virtuoso practitioners in Senate are attached to it. But its a sign of our polity's sickness not health.

But a grant would have worked better and would have centered the role the public was playing. Why not do a grant? Reconciliation rules wouldn't allow it. Same reason why you couldn't raise the minimum wage in the IRA. 3/4

There's funding to help schools and non profits do solar and heat pumps. It comes as a refundable tax credit to reimburse a portion of the costs paid up front. Its very complex and a testament to the skill of Sen. Wyden et al. 2/4

This thread from @michaelhobbes.bsky.social is right. Because the IRA was done via reconciliation, its heavy on tax credits. I think that adds a level of complexity, It also makes the taxpayer, not the public more generally, the central actor in a way that obscures the Democrat's role. 1/3

This right here, this exact sentence, is THE problem in American political journalism.

The IRA *was* cheap energy and good jobs! That was the whole bill! Democrats did precisely what political pundits are telling them to do and the pundits just ignore it.

the party now cared more about climate change and various academic fixations than cheap energy and good-paying jobs.

States face tough fiscal times in the next couple of years, in part because of the federal administration's budget irresponsibility. People on Medicaid are going to take that hit. Frontline public workers are going to take that hit. Football coaches, not so much.

If I was a state legislator, I'd introduce a bill capping future buyouts for head coaches at state schools at a reasonable level. Coaches get high compensation ostensibly in part because there's risk. Part of our problem in society is a culture of bailing out the elites.
