Always great to discover a mother with excellent taste!

Paul, smooth and silky; John, nasal and raw; George, a mixture of both. The combination of all three - and on paper it should make no sense - the texture is the purest of harmonies! Only The Everly Brothers and Simon & Garfunkel compare with the two part harmonies. George is underrated for his input

It’s the polar opposite of the exhausted three harmonising vocals on Because. Exuberant, thrilling and Prellies-fuelled - especially on the final, excited “yeah!” outburst
eggpod.bsky.social
As always George had the most difficult harmony. John and Paul seemed to pounce on the 1 and 3 - leaving George to find the missing in between notes!

Sometimes words are irrelevant. Just close your eyes and listen!

Everyone’s heard the incredible (triple-tracked) three part harmonies on Because from 1969.

But four years prior to Abbey Road John, Paul and George recorded this far more subtle, emotional and raw vocal performance. Just so beautiful

A rough listen, but there’s so much gold dust in there.

As ever, Beatles fans across the world are doing the best work in remixing/restoring Beatles audio. Thanks to these diligent souls, the ropey Star-Club recordings are getting better all the time.

If PJ’s tech is the best out there, then surely it’s only a matter of time?

If this happens a lot (which I think it will), the short term benefit will be that the box set will come down in price in a few months. The long term benefit will be that the new set of fans who watch Anthology on Disney+ will hopefully have a more affordable box. Not what Apple wanted, but hey!

I suspect there’ll be an influx of people doing this. What a shame. This whole project could’ve been done so much better.

And the standalone was about £2!

Glad they’ve seen sense, but I hope not too many people have already paid for the boxset in order to get Anthology 4.

New Beatles info!

Why Don’t we do it in the Road?, which was recorded on 9 October 1968, also makes a brief appearance on another White Album song recorded more than four months earlier.

Have a listen to this isolated backing track from 20/31 May 1968:

“P.S. No. A.K. at M.S.G. if it’s uncool” is rather touching. Why didn’t you say that in January 1969, John!

Fascinating 1972 letters from John to Paul, proposing a joint performance with The Rolling Stones at the One to One gigs. And, perhaps, a show in Ireland.

They’d previously met up on 29th Jan ‘72 (the day before Bloody Sunday)
