Happy #WIPSnips 15 - Care!

From RETURN TO BLUDEYE BEACH. After accidentally falling asleep and spending the night at her boyfriend's apartment, Edie, 25 years old, has concerns here thay say a lot more about her than her dad; Teddy hasn't shown much concern about her comings and goings.
“I gotta get home,” Edie said, scrambling to her feet. “My dad’s gonna kill me.”
Milo stood up with her, letting her hold on to him for balance as she shoved on her shoes, his forehead furrowing.
“But…would he?” Milo asked. “Be upset you stayed out, I mean?” Edie had to pause to think about that.
“Maybe not,” she admitted, her mind slowly clearing away the rush of panic. “I let him know I was gonna be here, but not that…you know, I’d spend the night.”
“Would he really care that you did?”
“I’m not sure? He wasn’t around when that would’ve been a big deal. But I never stayed out when I was living with my mom. I was a well behaved kid. I saved all my bad behaviors for when I moved out of the house.”
“Sounds like you should be making up for lost time,” Milo teased. “Wanna do some drugs later?”
	“Ha, ha.”

Noah has a surprisingly open heart-to-heart with Collector Mortimer about the loss of his mom 😢

From #Tenement, my dystopian mystery about people living in an infinite building.
“Be good to your father, Noah. Remember he’s trying to navigate around the pit just as you are, and it’s not any easier for him than it is for you.”
I didn’t like the Collectors. I didn’t like Mortimer. I tried to remind myself of this.
But my chest swelled up, and I felt the sting of tears in my eyes.
“It’s so hard some days,” I confessed helplessly. My voice cracked with the effort of holding in the tears. “I wish—I mean—if we at least knew what happened to her—”
“You think that would help?”
“I—I don’t know. Maybe.” I sniffled and wiped my eyes on my sleeve.
He offered me a handkerchief, which I took with some embarrassment.
“I know I tease you about the trouble you caused with the wall,” Mortimer said, a little apologetically. “But I really am glad you made it out of there. You’re very lucky, you know. And so is your family. Imagine how devastated they would have been to lose you too.”
Composing myself, I nodded grimly.
“Just don’t let your grief drive you to do anything reckless. Think of all the people who care about you, who rely on you.”
Digital illustration by @sarkastiklover.bsky.social of Noah Walker, a young man with medium-dark skin, very short brown hair, and a loose-fitting beige shirt standing in a long narrow corridor with yellow/brown wallpaper with a rose pattern near the base, wooden floors, & a naked lightbulb hanging from a slightly cracked ceiling. He is standing back-to-back with his mom Cassie, a woman with large curly brown hair, who is looking back over her shoulder fearfully toward him. Diagonal cross-sections separate the two, with Noah in the present & colored, while Cassie is in the past & black and white. In Noah's left hand he holds the Nwissy (a compass).

#PlotTober 15

I think my midpoint has to be the twins meeting each other again after being separated for a long time. Clara got lost outside of Arx Lucis in the inciting incident, and has since been trying to get back into the city, while Mem works inside the city to get the means to save her...🧵

15. The midpoint of the story serves two purposes: (1) it reveals critical information to the MC and (2) causes the MC to confront both who they used to be and who they need to become to grow, change, and/or achieve their goals. What are some ways you could do this?

Lmao thanks Sam 😂😂😂 it was originally a filler term while I thought of something better, but it's just stuck now 🤣

Collage of three artworks side to side in a similar style.

1. A full-body digital illustration of Alexa in an Art Nouveau style referencing Alphonse Mucha's "Spring". She is a half-elf with fair skin and bright ginger hair falling in long swoops; her eyes are aqua blue matching the colour of the gems adorning her red beret, her single earring and her choker. She wears blue stays and red puff sleeves, long gloves and over-the-knee boots embroidered with gold. A cloth monogrammed with the initials 'A.I.' is tucked into her belt, and a flowing pink cloth wraps around her legs. Alexa is holding a silver rapier with one gloved hand and touching its blade with the fingertips of the other, as she looks to the side with a smirk. The background features Art Nouveau-style decorative elements with swooping vines, trailing roses and blooming lilies in a soft pastel colour scheme.

2. Full body Art Nouveau style of Ellia, a tiefling paladin, within an ornamental frame. She has ivory wings tinged with gold and pink, red skin with dark-tipped horns, short black hair, and pure gold eyes. She wears ornate white and gold armour. She is holding the Sword of Zariel with one hand; her red cape is folded over her other arm. All around her feet, snowdrops bloom. Ellia belongs to tieflingpaladin on bsky.

3. Art nouveau style drawing of Menardi, an elf woman with flowing white hair wearing metal and leather armour. She's standing in a misty/snowy landscape featuring bleeding heart flowers, and she's holding a bow in one hand and an arrow in another, looking down with a melancholy air. Menardi belongs to mimidrws on bsky. Illustration of Amity and Kiana lying on their backs with their heads close together, reaching out to touch each other's hair as they look tenderly into each other's eyes. Stars swirl in the current around them. Amity is a dark-skinned girl with dragon-like horns and curly brown and pink hair. Kiana is a girl with pale skin and cat-like ears, white and purple hair, and yellow eyes rimmed in red makeup. Both characters belong to Lunewarden on Bluesky / Artfight. Digital illustration of Alexa, a half-elven woman with pale skin, blue eyes and long red hair. She's wearing shimmery makeup and a circus ringmaster outfit. A heart-shaped spotlight is shining on her. She's holding a whip which is snapping in the air above her, as she touches a gloved hand to her top hat and smiles at the viewer. Chibi lineup of the Forgekeepers: Artem, a tiefling rogue; Alexa, a half-elf bard; Dúri, a dwarf cleric; Theefsa, a goblin warlock; and Addan, an elf druid.
All characters other than Alexa belong to my D&D party friends (Theefsa belongs to lunelkie.bsky.social - Addan belongs to leki02.bsky.social); Alexa belongs to me.

No, I definitely agree 😂 my hope is with this particular one I have in mind, it kind of will get reframed after reading book 4, which would hopefully make a reread worthwhile
eliwoodsgheist.com
Yeah, that's a big concern for me lol, I get super worked up in the moment over a cliffhanger but by the time it dissipates I'm just not as invested in the next book.

Chapter One
The First Day of the End of My Life
My only concern in the hours leading up to
my wedding was whether I would be able to adequately affix a bow tie. It's an infuriating garment that likely would have been phased out of fashion decades ago had it not pitifully clung to the wedding industry as a last bastion of relevance. Admittedly, no one was forcing me to adopt such an outmoded accessory, but it wasn't as if I knew how to do a regular tie any better so I figured I might as well opt for the "fancier" option. Had I known that my choice of tie would ultimately determine the fate of all sentient beings in the universe, I would have bought a clip on. Grim Portents cover featuring a skeleton hand holding a feather and emerging from an open book. The title is on a burning banner that envelops the feather and a large beast looms over it all. At the top, the tagline reads: Welcome to the first day of the end of your life…

right?? things are generally somewhat *different* at the end of each Bludeye book, but still resolved; I want readers to feel satisfied and emotionally affected. But I have Big Plans for book 4, so I kind of want to start with a bang 😂

That's a little bit what I'm thinking, yeah 😂

Ballard: Not enough gunfights 😭

Atl will step up as a leader, though not in the way he expects. Ballard will find a lot of contentment as a consort to his king and maybe still having the occasional gunfight as a treat.

14. Now that you have some ideas of your story's beginning and the main character's goals & growth, can you come up with a few different story endings that would be satisfying for a reader?

Ooo this is definitely an intriguing problem; plenty of folks have offered some very smart insight already and I don't think I have anything to contribute, except that I think with this premise you'll have some very interesting choices to make, and I'm excited to see what you do!

#PlotTober Day 14: Story endings

I am debating on a few different endings for Josh. None of which are happy.

A) He succeeds in his plan to kill alternate Josh and take his life, but it slowly falls apart as he is still the same person he always was. Eventually he ends up worse off than before.

I absolutely agree; I'm more considering it for how well it would set up events in book 4, rather than trying to force a build in suspense. For me personally, when a book ends in cliffhanger but i have to wait for the next to publish, I honestly lose all interest past the initial rush.
