Still primarily from Shark Smoocher (now known as The Stars Will Be Our Ocean) until I make some more headway in my other drafts. And for "system," what else could I post but a moment with Dani and Patches?
They looked down and their eyes got huge and sparkly. "OH MY GOD IS THIS—" I flailed my hands and they hushed to a whisper, "is this a little Reshketh robot?! How did you get this?" "The voice command input system. I'm told you're familiar?" They nodded enthusiastically. “I've been calling it Patches; it's been helping me out." Their eyes, impossibly, got bigger and sparklier as they lifted the drone into their lap like a puppy. "You named it Patches?"

Viola couldn’t stop grinning at Edie. “Okay,” Edie said with a sigh. “Get it out of your system now.” “You kissed my brother,” Viola said immediately. “You’re a brother-kisser. Can I start calling you my sister-in-law? Can I be your maid of honor? Cuz you're gonna marry my brother. Cuz you kissed him.”

Vibes today! It's Mireia & Kena's ordination as the new gods, but unfortunately things aren't going great between the two of them at first... 😢

From Book 1 of my #Atlantis trilogy.
“I just think it would be best for both of us to keep to ourselves from now on, and only deal with each other when it’s absolutely necessary.” She gave him a stern look. “Yaiaku?” Any semblance of lightheartedness had completely abandoned Kena at this point. He glowered straight ahead, radiating quiet anger, his mouth pressed into a hard line. “You know,” he remarked, “there’s this amazing thing they’ve invented called tact. You ought to try it sometime.” “I don’t need tact. I say things as they are.” “Even if it means telling someone to their face that you want nothing to do with them?” “Would you prefer I lied to you to make you feel better?” Kena scowled. “So you’re not even going to give me a chance? You don’t know anything about me!” “No,” she replied. “And you don’t know anything about me.” “I feel I’m beginning to,” he muttered. “Young gods.” Sister Zu’uvit gestured at them. “It’s time.” Through the doorway, they could hear Xa’aba’s speech building up to the climactic moment when the two of them would step through that door and face the Na’aqal people for the first time. Kena lifted up his hand stiffly, and she took it as limply as possible. Both of them stared straight ahead, bitter and fuming, as they walked forward together. The cheer that went up from the crowd was loud enough to be heard in all Eleven Worlds.

In Bludeye Beach, Edie and Milo are each other's first loves when they meet at 15 and 16. There is a 10 year timeskip during which both meet and date other people, but when they see each other again, it's like they picked up where they left off ❤️❤️

Kena's first love is Mireia, & yes he would fall for her again. Their whole thing is that they (allegedly) fall in love again & again in every lifetime ❤️❤️❤️

I passed 20k words the other day! I'm not sure I'll be able to reach my goal of 30k since I'm going out of town for Thanksgiving this year, but I'll try to get as close to it as possible.

Here's a snip from the latest chapter I'm working on. #Writevember
Before Lex could react, Daemrin planted himself between her and the Belenosi men, his back to her. In his raised right hand was a pistol. When had he drawn that? “Hand her over at once, scoundrel!” Hendry demanded. Peeking around Daemrin’s broad shoulders, she glimpsed her uncle’s snarl of disgust. “Or be charged with kidnapping a noblewoman of House Aden!” So much for secrecy. Katorgans worked for the highest bidder, and her measly four hundred credits were dust and ash compared to her family’s funds. She had no doubt Daemrin would hand her over for a satisfactory sum, just like he and Stavro had done with the arsonist, Caiseal Gillain. She and Talna would return to Dun Crunath in the escort of armed guards. While Lex might live to see another day, she couldn’t say the same for Talna. Everything since their flight from the palace would be for naught. But Daemrin did not budge. “Lex,” he said, his voice low, his tone unreadable. Her stomach twisted. Cautiously, she looked up at him, but he was staring down the soldiers. From her angle, all she could see was the back of his head, his ear, and a sliver of his cheek. “Daemrin?” “Do you want to go with them?” “No.” The answer rushed out of her before she could give it thought, desperate, urgent. She grabbed his free arm. “Take me away. Please.” He made a small, amused sound, then raised his voice to a shout. “You know,” he said to Hendry, “that’s a really interesting proposition, but I got a better one: how about you suck my dick!” Daemrin fired.

I find external challenges extreeeemely helpful. Setting a tough but achievable goal for myself with a clear outcome is a big part of my productivity, and things like word goals really help. The trick is to know what's achievable, and what's too overwhelming 😅

“Get out.” The howl woke him from the dead of sleep. He'd never fallen asleep on the bench before. Never had the chance—these tests were minutes. He twisted in his seat to peer over the window ledge into the chamber. It was dark. No testing, no father—nothing—though the chamber looked undisturbed. The digital clock posted high on the wall in the chamber read out two in the morning. He’d been left out here for three hours? Therion scowled at the clock. Something about it was wrong. Colorful aberrations played within the oddly distorted red liquid crystal. When it flipped a minute past, the digit flipped between one and seven and two and five and three and four and one… His skin crawled but he steeled himself. It was a trick of light coming through the thick laboratory glass, nothing more. Father was one for harmless pranks, but never ones so creepy. He hopped off the bench to head towards his room but stopped at the sound of plastic tap under his shoe that echoed over the metal walls. He picked the card up and flipped it over. It was his father’s; the name Dr. Makariy Olyevich Romashenko was laser-etched next to what he knew as a decade-old headshot of the man who seemed to have barely aged a day since except for the small lines around his eyes. Perhaps there’d been a breakthrough. Therion could forgive that—maybe—and so he pocketed the keycard to give his father an earful in the morning.

In BLUDEYE BEACH, Edie is fairly reluctant to initiate touch, but can warm up quickly to accepting it; like many things, it can make her anxious. The exception is Milo. When they start dating, she starts initiating a lot of hugs and cuddling.

Honestly just encouraging each other is so helpful. When I used to write in isolation and not show anyone my work, it was so easy to fall into the trap of thinking everything I wrote was garbage & just giving up. Sharing with others & encouraging them too is a big help ❤️

Even with the distance, her voice easily traveled to his ears. “This is certainly not the center of town, but there is no use hiding here and I’m sure you know that.” “Yes, I had considered as much myself,” Vashad replied massaging the nervous tension from his neck. “And that is why I’m not planning to stay here either. I won’t bore you as it appears that you know why I’m here, but I will request a list of stock I could get for you.” “Well, I can’t say you – take a cookie – I can’t say you lack for brains,” Alura offered returning with a plate of the dessert. “Mmm... thank you,” Vashad responded, forcing a smile that could not mask his discomfort. The treat that he was forced to take in hand was his Nannan’s world notorious knotty sap cookies. The taste was horrendous, but Alura insisted that they were good for keeping illnesses at bay, so Vashad showed his respect by choking them down. “So, how about it. Does the brewmother have a task for me, or will I have to wander aimlessly through the thick of the woods? Lost, adrift, directionless – hoping that I can find my way back.” “It’s certainly a shame that no traveling performers come out this way. I’m certain you would have fit right in.” “Riding rough in a cramped carriage, sleeping in dusty bedrolls and fighting off the ticks during a leak between towns? I could never,” Vashad replied with a shiver for emphasis. “Besides, who would provide my little old Nannan her entertainment were I to leave?"

Edie's eyes flicked over the woods, and then paused. She thought for a moment that she saw another of the ubiquitous carved eyes that covered the pine trees by the road. After a moment, she understood; it was the same shape, but the birch trees’ eyes were just their natural scars, where the bark remembered the limb it once held. Now, the birch trees revealed an eternal stare. Every single one was covered in those marks, staring in every direction.
