Columbus Day comes to mind first. The 4th of July that's celebrated here in the US is second on my list.

Fireworks are going off for weeks before and after (I have dogs and a child, it's unpleasant), and it's also massively triggering for people with PTSD.

There has never been a LIVE ACTION adaptation of, what I consider, the best Santa Clause book ever written: "The Life and Adventures of Santa Clause" by L. Frank Baum.

However, Tempest and I celebrate Hogswatch from Terry Pratchett's "Hogfather", as we they used to travel back to their home state on Yule.

So, "Hogfather" is the true staple of Yuletide in our home.

"Hell Is Work" starts around Yule (Virgil brings gifts for certain office mates) and the climax happens on April Fool's Day.

In "Hail Santa," Yule is pretty heavily discussed, and Virgil and Lucifer attend a Halloween party dressed in each other's clothes.

The absolute gall of this guy.

FYI: "sah" in this culture is the address for children & subordinates. As the gods, Mireia & Kena are expected to address everyone as "sah," but Mimi gives it some extra oomph here.

From Book 2 of my #Atlantis trilogy.
“I’ve heard rumors that you intend to, ah... free the slaves?” This question, spoken in a vaguely mocking tone, was directly at Mireia—only at Mireia. She opened her mouth to reply, but Kena spoke first, not hiding the annoyance in his voice. “We intend to, yes.” The lord’s eyes begrudgingly turned to Kena, and his thin mouth twitched, the trace of a smile becoming first a frown, and then a different kind of smile—polite but stony. “I see,” said the Obsidian man, in a more serious tone. “I must admit, I was hoping you might reassure me that these rumors were untrue. Are you certain that—?” “We are certain, sah,” Mireia said sharply, with emphasis on the sah. “I only wonder if you’ve thought about—” “We know it will be difficult,” Kena cut him off. “But we feel it must be done.” The man’s smile somehow became stonier. “You are both still so young, and the young are always full of idealism. That’s one of the beauties of this system of ours, ona? Every generation gets a new pair of gods with fresh eyes and hopeful dreams, who haven’t yet been jaded by the world. Without Mu’u and Raa, relics like myself would never be forced to change, and our society would stagnate. I appreciate that—honestly, I do. But idealism must ever be tempered with realism, young gods. And, while the idea of freeing the slaves is a noble goal, I don’t feel that it’s very realistic.” He took a sip of wine, then glanced at Mireia. “Sea Mother, you especially ought to consider how this will look. There are already many out there who believe that your mixed blood makes you too partial to the barbarians. What will they say if you do this?” “They can say whatever they like about me,” Mireia said. “It doesn’t change what’s right.”

It's almost a throwaway mention but Virgil paints his toenails in a red he knows Lucifer likes.

This man wears the same clothes every day. The same haircut. That's not Virgil. It's "The Consultant."

He's masked so hard he forgot he wasn't the mask. But the man beneath that mask is still there.

All I need is ten seconds to plug in our home coordinates and—” But Tennyson gave up on trying to grab the END and grabbed Poe by the front of the shirt instead, pulling him close enough to snatch the device from Poe’s hand and then giving the black-haired boy a shove that sent him sprawling backwards on his butt in the leaf litter.

This is from very early in the book, when I'm introducing my readers to the actual building of the Good Thyme Inn. It's got mysteries galore in its walls... literally. Plus a lot of steampunk-esque clockwork mechanisms
A complex system of ropes, pulleys, and gears ran throughout the two buildings that comprised the Good Thyme Inn—the Thyme Building and the Parsley Apartments. Some machinery crossed the bridge while some went underground, installed when the pipelayers gifted the inn with hot and cold running water. Most of the chains were connected to bells in areas where employees worked so the innmaster could summon them no matter where they were. The pulls were chains and tassels, most of them located beside the innmaster’s desk. But the dinner bell—the sweetest chime—was rang from the kitchen and sang into every guest room. Interior of the Good Thyme Inn, front lobby, drawn by Aowna. The desk is made from a tree stump. Lots of wood and stone brick, but also pull chains, a clock, and a calendar. A vase for a vine with glowing flowers crawls up the banister.

They looked down and their eyes got huge and sparkly. "OH MY GOD IS THIS—" I flailed my hands and they hushed to a whisper, "is this a little Reshketh robot?! How did you get this?" "The voice command input system. I'm told you're familiar?" They nodded enthusiastically. “I've been calling it Patches; it's been helping me out." Their eyes, impossibly, got bigger and sparklier as they lifted the drone into their lap like a puppy. "You named it Patches?"

Ramsu opened his mouth to respond, and he was back in Pathmelon beneath a hotter sun with a dry wind scraping across his skin. He felt a horrible jolt like a shock to his entire nervous system when he took in the body right in front of him, almost close enough to touch, sprawled in a puddle of blood that still had a wet sheen to it. Cursing, he scrambled to his feet. He had fleetingly forgotten about this, but here he was, returned to the middle of a massacre that was his fault. He slapped both hands on the top of his head as he turned in a circle, taking it in again. Reminding himself how awful it was and how totally he was responsible. Then he set off north at a brisk walk.

Far below, Mick could see the problem. First, chains of small figures formed a net around the center of the crystal leading to the Lume. Crowds of dragons hovered around the crystal, many already in their war forms. Second, there was a canal going through the city now. A tendril of earth, extending from one of the rock walls almost to the Lume. The longer he watched it, the more Mick could see it crawling with zizzun too, including a cluster at one end raising rock pillars to add to the track while others rode a small cart carrying crystals along its length. It almost looked like a primitive mine cart system, but for what purpose, Mick couldn’t quite tell. He landed and sensed Eleanor approaching. “Did you know about this?” he asked slowly. She cleared her throat. “I wanted to wait until you were fully awake.”
