Education is the foundation of opportunity, and opportunity is the cornerstone of the American Dream.

These people evidently hate America.
I didn't actually appreciate the similarity until I looked it up today. Point being I don't think it's impossible to think it may not have come up.
That a soldier got drunk on leave and got an ill-advised tattoo with his fellow servicemen does not a Nazi make. The fact that he was not concerned about hiding it can also suggest he did not see it as a SS badge.
His interview on Pod Save America seemed reasonable enough. It's wild that people are so convinced by the oppo research from *checks notes* his 78 year old opponent's backers.

No one here has a bigger problem with the Dem party throwing a vet under the bus because "it's not his turn?"
Johnson is such a weasley, sniveling coward. He's also totally full of shit. He could totally swear Grijalva in anytime he wants but he's too much of a coward to do so. Meanwhile, the people of cd7 in Arizona continue to go without representation.
To his credit, Jonathan Karl was ready for Johnson's bullshit and called him out in real time.
KARL: I mean, you could swear in Adelita Grijalva tomorrow, right?

MIKE JOHNSON: No, not tomorrow. We couldn't. We wouldn't.

Wondering what to do this weekend? Here's your guide to all of the No Kings events in the Tucson area!
Yes, and the Patriot Act. It's long seemed evident that security is a great excuse to consolidate power at the cost of liberty.

The war on terror enabled the worst excesses of our country's power and laid the groundwork for our modern security state which may soon be turned on its own people.
Great thread about manufacturing and consumption in America.

Our lifestyles are propped up by exploiting cheap labor. Even if we wanted made in America, most could not afford the cost.

The modern American life is out of balance, unsustainable, and built on sand.

We have so much work to do...
This two-parter below is exactly why it's hard to make clothes in the United States.

Let's look at how much it costs to produce a button-up shirt in the US. 🧵
I'm so tired of the Democratic party establishment.

At its core, civil disobedience was never intended to be radical — it was always designed, in times such as these, to expose the radical violence of civil obedience and to light the way to collective refusal to participate in that violence.

In the last 48 hours, right-wing election groups have submitted over 200,000 new comments to the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) urging it to require Americans to show a passport or other citizenship documents when registering to vote. Please comment to oppose this before October 20! 1/3

When you remove any and all accountability for the rich and powerful for the harm they cause, don't be surprised when the victims of that harm take matters into their own hands.

I think Klein's point is more that there are still likely points of agreement with maga people that we can find, and if we just focus on how they're our enemy things can only get worse.
I hope our country finds a peaceful path forward, but I worry that things are going to get much worse.

Violence is ultimately a failure of communication, and Trump and his allies have made it pretty clear that they're not interested in dialogue - just power and control.
Pay attention. Something dark might be coming.

The murder of Charlie Kirk could have united Americans to confront political violence. Instead, Trump and his anti-democratic radicals look to be readying a campaign to destroy dissent.

1/ Here's what's happening.
Stephen Miller: "The last message that Charlie Kirk gave to me before he joined his creator in heaven was he said that we have to dismantle and take on the radical left organizations in this country that are fomenting violence. That was the last message that he sent me ... we are gonna do that."
Lol no worries, NIMBYs are a problem in lots of places. Thought you might be talking about a larger policy concept or model.
We need more community and 3rd spaces and they need to be accessible when people can actually access them.

How do you define nbhd in this context?
@boycottcitizens.bsky.social pointed out on another post that a lot of GEO Group and Core Civic shares are actually held by institutions like state pension funds:

bsky.app/profile/boyc...

Another point of action is pressuring institutions to divest from such holdings.
Millions of Americans indirectly own shares of GEO Group and CoreCivic, most without even realizing it.

prisonfreefunds.org is a good tool to find out if funds have GEO or CXW stock.
Take it one step further, ban for-profit private detention facilities and prisons.

The power to deprive people of their liberty should be reserved to the state through due process.

The profit motives of private prisons creates perverse incentives antithetical to a free and just society.

This Labor Day, a reminder that strong unions, fair wages, and safe working conditions don’t just honor workers—they strengthen our democracy and economy.

That’s the vision we carry forward at Roosevelt 💪
Wages are not keeping up with the cost of living. We cannot tackle this piecemeal or leave this up to just business owners.

Good jobs & strengthening worker power are democratic & economic imperatives. rooseveltinstitute.org/publications...

Gus Speth: "I used to think that top environmental problems were biodiversity loss, ecosystem collapse and climate change. I thought that 30 years of good science could address these problems. I was wrong. The top environmental problems are selfishness, greed and apathy...”
What if you live in your car or have an RV?
Appreciate you sharing this information. I think it's true that most people have no clue where their retirement or pension funds are actually invested.

It's one of the reasons why I think it's problematic for our retirement system to be so heavily tied to Wall Street.
