during college i learned of the Bread and Puppet Theater (a hour or so up the road from Hanover and a summer visitor)

i get strength from the inflatable costumes 🎈🐸
the dolls 🏳️‍⚧️ who continue to dance and sway against so much
the bread, the puppets, the signs

joy or laughter feed courage

I hope we can find this in our lives. We definitely need something to help us through. #Joy

The Peace of Wild Things
—Wendell Berry

#Poetry #SmallPoemSunday

May all find a moment of peace in nature today. At minimum go stand below a tree and look up toward the sky for a full minute. #Peace
The Peace of Wild Things
Wendell Berry

When despair for the world grows in me and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

That would be Robert Landsburg you're thinking of.

He was west of the mountain when it erupted and was overcome by the pyroclastic density flow within minutes.

Seventeen days after the eruption, the 304th Air Force Reserve found Robert Landsburg three miles west of Mount St. Helens. In his ash-covered bag: camera, film, and ID—all shielded.

Published in National Geographic in 1981, his photos became iconic records of the eruption.
