There's always something.

Always.

Mine is congenitally incapable of finishing little things.

Never cleans his plate.
Never fully closes a Tupperware.
Never wraps anything completely.
Never gets *all* the clothes in the laundry basket.
Etc.
(This is a list I could never finish.)

Love him, but...

Come on!
God calls, still youthful,
excited by the world

And here they are
the lion, the squirrel
the grazing beasts

all gazing
at their creator who
the artist in his hubris

paints as man

More love, I can hear our hearts cryin'
More love, I know that's all we need
More love, to flow in between us
To take us and hold us and lift us above
If there's ever an answer
It's more love

Just look out around us
People fightin' their wars
They think they'll be happy
When they've settled their scores
Let's lay down our weapons
That hold us apart
Be still for just a minute
Try to open our hearts

There's a silence between us
And there's so much to say
You're my strength, you're my weakness
You're my faith, you're my doubt
We gotta meet in the middle
To work this thing out

Now Autumn's fire burns slowly along the woods,

And day by day the dead leaves fall and melt,

And night by night the monitory blast

Wails in the key-hold ...

An old poem in four verses:

still the nearest I can come to the truth of my heart.

Pain everywhere,
for everyone.

My prayer for peace.

I travel again the crooked road.
The map is torn and stained,
way-posts hang crazily in the wind.
Who can guide me?

The knell of loneliness tolls.

The #7syllablesentence prompt for October 9 is #knell

Outside in the damp, forgiving dark
the bright boat of the moon
rocks, patient as a lullaby.
I close my eyes and feel those dry hills
rough as braille under my fingers;
blindly I reach and reach
to ease our way.

A tablet, a wall, a dome
can live as long as a grievance,
persistent as the memory of pain.
In that stark desiccant air
constructions show the hard beauty
of perseverance, the effort
it takes to build belief.

In the desert
stone, clay, parchment
seem never to decay—
there is no kindly moisture
to blur the edge of narrative,
to break down attitude or habit
with the green insistence
of small live things.

The night will never stay,
The night will still go by,

Though with a million stars
You pin it to the sky;

Though you bind it with the blowing wind
And buckle it with the moon,

The night will slip away
Like sorrow or a tune.

Is there nowhere
that is not pain?

Only the hope of peace shines
silent

And the moon?
Who among us does not wander,
and bow to the ground?

Who does not
stand open
if only in secret

taking heart in the ripening of the moon?

The cricket's song is gold

just as before
bees drone peacefully
on the cool veranda,

plum preserves turn cold
& over sleepy gardens
quietly, the end of summer bathes in the sun.

Among the leaves
the morning writes
slow shadows—

All this could happen
The moon is so round today!
