The whole Spin Master retro aesthetic is just "what if licensed toys were truly terrible unlicensed toys you'd win at a county fair instead". Their supposed to be "Kenner style" but even bendy leg Han Solo's sculpt and paint weren't this bad.

Packaged toys from the Spin Master Batman 1989 Retro Target exclusive collection, featuring Batman, The Joker, Viki Val, and Bob the Goon. They all feature extremely inaccurate crude sculpting and strangely off color selections.

While part of the methodology is the same, the impetus is different. Britain's (and others') take was "this is a problem of sexual urges, so we will eliminate that chemically." Iran's take is "only men and women should have sex with each other, so gay men should be women." Neither is good of course.
