🔬 An intimate glimpse of Colletotrichum graminicola weaving its path during maize leaf infection.
🌿 Biotrophic hyphae elegantly advance between host cells, tracing silent paths beneath the surface.
🧬 A quiet conquest, cell by cell.

New report of Colletotrichum graminicola in Austria, showing its ongoing spread across Europe. Congratulations to all the authors, and especially to Silvia Gutiérrez-Sánchez, the first student I had the pleasure to co-supervise during her undergraduate thesis. 🔬🌽🧫🔁 @phypapers.bsky.social

Starting a new research adventure in France thanks to a #FEMS Research and Training Grant! I’ve joined the #BIOGER unit at #INRAE, #AgroParisTech, to study a fungal effector from #Colletotrichum higginsianum and its role during #Arabidopsis thaliana infection. Grateful and excited! @femsmicro.org 🧫🌱

Every spring, these wild orchids return to #CIALE #USAL. A quiet reminder that nature and science can grow together, Orchis species blooming in harmony with research.

Daily life in the lab: testing the growth of different #Colletotrichum graminicola strains under stress to evaluate cell wall and membrane integrity. These experiments are part of the MSc project of David Andrés Jerez-Vanegas, a very committed student I have the pleasure of co-supervising. 🔬🍄🙂

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of leading a practical session of the Genetic Engineering and Genomics course for undergraduate biology students at #USAL. We explored how to analyze and interpret DNA sequences and use basic bioinformatics tools, under the supervision of Prof. Serenella Sukno. 🧬

This week at #17ECFG, our team shared findings on the C. graminicola effector CgEP4, which translocates to the nucleus and nucleolus and plays a key role in maize anthracnose. We captured beautiful microscopic images of its localization,a great achievement given the challenges of working with maize.

This week at #17ECFG we presented our findings on CgEP3, a chloroplastic effector from Colletotrichum graminicola that suppresses early immune responses in maize. Many thanks to Pablo García-Rodríguez for presenting the poster and to all team members for their excellent work.

🌽 The maize pathogen Colletotrichum graminicola is shaped by long-distance gene flow and recombination, influencing its evolution and global spread.

Understanding these dynamics is crucial for disease management and crop protection.
