None of this is praising Mastodon.

It's just.. if you're looking at Mastodon as puritanical, how embarrassing is it for Bluesky to have NSFW standards that are *stricter* than that?

That's a thing critters supporting ATPro and Bluesky should be embarrassed about.
foxyoreos.bsky.social
The current NSFW ToS on Bluesky is more restrictive than on dot social as far as I can tell. It's definitely more restrictive than on the instance I use.

Which like.. if the main instances of Bluesky aren't located in Germany, then why are we doing this shit? Why do I have to ask what I can post?
foxyoreos.bsky.social
Like again - if you don't like Mastodon..

I dunno. Why do we need to speedrun all of the same mistakes here?
foxyoreos.bsky.social
It's all just petty instance owners all the way down on both networks now.

We got rid of content warnings over here. That's gone great, and totally hasn't resulted in regular discourse in NSFW communities about what's labeled, and NSFW artists getting added to lists, and..
foxyoreos.bsky.social
Again, this is not to say that Mastodon is good!

Just like.. if it's not good, maybe Bluesky should learn something from that.

Tyranical and petty instance owners can be annoying, yes. That's why Bluesky's "just use a different server" response is so infuriating.
foxyoreos.bsky.social
If you hate the fragmentation on Mastodon, valid!

I have bad news for you about how the federation model is going to work on Bluesky - particularly if lists/labelers for moderation lead to different critters seeing different replies, and different app views showing different content.
foxyoreos.bsky.social
I'm not here to praise Mastodon, I don't think this is a contest. I will say that I generally don't encounter puritanical cultures on my server, because we have actually functional CWs.

But it's fine to hate Mastodon, it's just.. Bluesky should consider not repeating all the same mistakes then.

Quick reminder, I won't be streaming tonight or on Saturday (got some family visiting), but I will be back on Sunday. Apawlogies in advance if I'm a little bit harder to reach during these two days. >w<

What I predict we're going to see is the Bluesky team continuing to withdraw into an echo chamber on these issues, probably even going so far as to build new site features to help them do it.

And I predict it's going to seriously hamper development and adoption of ATPro.
foxyoreos.bsky.social
I do not have faith in ATPro, because I've seen this shit play out before with ActivityPub.
foxyoreos.bsky.social
I think stems from a lot of the same kind of toxic positivity that we see in parts of the furry community, but it also just reminds me a LOT of Mastodon/Fediverse - people being less upset about structural problems, and more upset about being told that structural problems exist.
foxyoreos.bsky.social
There's a lot I could write about the prioritization of vibes over accountability and safety, but just to say that I don't think you can change the perception of a protocol by just sticking your fingers in your ears and going "nonono everyone is happy!"
Screenshot of a post by Paul:

Want to remark on a sentiment I've heard from the AT dev community ‒ in specific words, even, from bmann.ca, knowtheory.net, and rude1.blacksky.team, which I'll likely botch here:

Lead with joy, not fear.

I think that belief shows up a lot, and it's really affected me for the better!

If I had to pick a second great core value, it was the one going around recently:

You can just do things.

I'd put both of those to paper because, man, they're great.
foxyoreos.bsky.social
Would you be grateful that you missed out on the full fear of getting swallowed, or upset that you were unconscious for the last bit of fresh air on your fur that you were ever going to experience? Just curious~
foxyoreos.bsky.social
Can you imagine just being held by a pred at the back of the throat, a tight seal around your snout blocking out all air until you finally went limp, and then waking up already inside the stomach? :3

cw #FatalVore

Are you familiar with how lions will use their mouths to cover up the snouts of prey until they lose consciousness?

Would be a good way to quiet down squirmy doggies. What do you think would go through your head as your body screamed for oxygen? :3
foxyoreos.bsky.social
There's stuff I like about it, just trying to get a sense of how to use it and to get used to it a bit <3

Quoting for fedi. Bluesky is fucking up so people is leaving “the main instance”

Reminder if youre on bsky you can move to wafrn and have both bluesky and fedi (mastodon and others)
foxyoreos.bsky.social
Blacksky and Northsky have seen record-breaking new signups recently because a significant number of trans, Black, and marginalized users are scared of Bluesky.

And the response of Bluesky devs was to meme-ify it as "accerationist decentralization" and celebrate that outcome.

What joy? Where?

Replying to give my.. I don't know if endorsement is right since I'm not on it yet, but it is on my "todo" list to try, and the conversations I've had about it so far are good.

I give it my.. not "endorsement", but my "yeah NSFW furry artists should check this out and look into it more"-ment.

In case it helps anything, here's a post with links to the most active communities in different categories?

It won't help if - as you say - the communities you'd be interested in aren't active, and the active communities aren't ones you'd want to post in.

But it seemed like it couldn't hurt?

If you want absolutely every link for active communities on one page, regardless of how relatively active they are, this is for you.If this is too much of a wall of text, the information is broken up ...

I don't really need the communities in every website to be identical to each other - if there's an active space that fits some of my stuff, as an artist I can put the stuff that fits inside that space, and keep out the stuff that doesn't fit.
foxyoreos.bsky.social
That is helpful, thank you <3

Because even if my primary communities aren't active, if there are active communities that fit a subset of my art, I can still use Postybirb to upload some of my art to those communities - and I might not otherwise know what to search.

There's no way to create joy without first making people/critters feel *safe*. And I just see no indication that the Bluesky team understands that - understands that when critters are *running from you*, that's a BAD THING.
foxyoreos.bsky.social
Rudy can't solve that problem for you. Not unless he's going to fork this protocol, rename it, and then ban the Bluesky team from contributing.

It is infuriating to go from wondering if it's safe for me to ask moderators about specific artwork I've drawn.. to hearing people talk about joy.
foxyoreos.bsky.social
On a social level, the team is speedrunning every single mistake that ActivityPub made - creating a protocol where the vast majority of development is being led by people who many marginalized communities do not want to work with and do not trust. That's bad for the health of a protocol.
