"There is a lesson here for me, for my team, for the people of Ireland that if you put your head above the parapet and you dare to speak out and give a rational opinion that is based on evidence, this is what we will do, we will take you out, and this is really a very serious point in the campaign."

"Unpaid carers are predominantly women, which might go some way to explaining why their contributions are ignored." Catherine Connolly speaking out following yesterday's budget on the continuation of the means test for carers, and the unfulfilled promise of a cost of disability payment.

‘Domestic judges cannot undo the case law of the Strasbourg court that so irritates a section of the political class and its journalist outriders. But they are doing everything short of that to make human rights as much of a domestic legal irrelevance as possible.’

#Gaza:  2 years too long.

UNRWA’s photographers document the suffering of the people in #Gaza, and the work our dedicated teams continue to do.

International journalists are banned to enter Gaza and independently report.

See Gaza through their eyes.

Care as a human right?

The IACtHR recently recognised this right and specified respective state obligations.

MIRIAM L. HENRÍQUEZ VIÑAS & SABRINA RAGONE explain what this entails – and why we may soon witness a proliferation of norms at the domestic level.

Quote from the piece by Miriam Henriquez Vinas & Sabrina Ragone: “The Court provided a comprehensive interpretation of the right to care as implicitly embedded in the Convention, connected to other conventional rights, and multifaceted in nature.”

OMG this William G. Young opinion that just dropped (12:30pm) in AAUP v. Rubio.
It begins with a postcard sent to Chambers and Young's reply

card: "Trump has pardons and tanks, what do you have?"

WGY: "We the People of the United States — you and me — have our magnificent Constitution"

I very much support the scrapping of the means test for carers allowance. If it happens it must not be allowed to continue to defray the states responsibility to support people to live independently (with supports as required). It can’t be the answer to the no vote to #CareRef.

The International Criminal Court matters. For the most vulnerable it is a ‘small light’ in the darkness. When enkindled it protects us all from severe forms rights deprivation.

In this post @tomdannenbaum.bsky.social & I trace how the Starmer Government's repeatedly misconstrues its obligations under the Genocide Convention in #Gaza, hiding behind a Court judgement that is years away with a position that we call "legally illiterate" and "morally indefensible".

Unfortunate use of ‘blind’ in the headline.

Blindness (unconscious bias) is characteristic of every day discrimination, not severe forms of discriminations in which the hostility is conscious and purposive.
