A rational assessment of the threat environment for COVID would entail monitoring it properly - including not fudging death statistics, informing the public of the dangers of Long COVID, air filtration in all public buildings and mandatory masking in hospitals.

(and i think it is a demand that stems from fear more than a rational assessment of the threat environment)

Kabas is right: access journalism isn't journalism.

maybe this will help some realize that you don’t need access to cover the government effectively. in fact, it’s actually better.

The Pentagon is telling beat reporters to sign restrictive new rules by Tuesday or surrender their press passes by Wednesday. Many news organizations are rejecting the ultimatum and saying they will not sign. Here's my latest >>> www.cnn.com/2025/10/13/m...

The signs are more legible than the traffic signs in the original, for example.

I feel like the signs are fine, but the compression algorithms of these social media platforms are not.

UN experts have said the IDF's "targeted destruction" of Gaza's health-care system amounts to "medicide." The UN has accused Israel of deliberately attacking and starving health-care workers, paramedics and hospitals in order to wipe out medical care in the besieged enclave.

Here’s the thing I wish everyone could hold in their minds about writers—we love em dashes. We use em dashes. We are humans and not AI. We will not be deleting our em dashes just because AI uses them too. We were here first. You can pry my em dashes from my cold dead hands. F*ck AI.

Word. The phrasing of the piece tripped me up.

For a second I thought an actual BC health official said that. Alas no.

Still, progress!

The solution to both the lack of a stable social media site for me to post my little sentences and the financial difficulties of the Canadian post office is for the Canadian post office to create a social media site where I can post my little sentences.

Two of the most common climate misconceptions I see, even among knowledgeable folks, are that (1) most people aren't worried about climate change, and (2) if they were, they'd act.

Not true! Data show (1) most people are worried, but (2) they won’t act if they don’t know what to do-and most don’t.
A map of the world showing how levels of worry in most countries are greater than 70%. Source: Yale Program on Climate Change Communication, International Public Opinion on Climate Change, 2023.

Insert a big exhausted exhale because @beebrookshire.bsky.social absolutely captured the frustration of trying to cling to community as each social media network becomes a Nazi bar over & over & over: brookshire-team-trash.beehiiv.com/p/backed-int...

ICE admits that up to 50% of arrests in its Chicago raids are "collateral.” These aren't statistics. They are parents taken from their children, neighbors taken from our communities. When does a "collateral" U.S. citizen child's trauma matter? This isn't law enforcement; it's a campaign of terror.

By "proven right" Kulldorff apparently means "a series of incorrect predictions about herd immunity based on an impossible fantasy about infection control."
Martin Kulldorff tweet, Oct 4, 2025:

Five years ago today, we authored the Great Barrington Declaration, arguing for focused protection instead of lockdowns. A wholehearted thank you to the almost one million co-signers. We were proven right.

Let's turn the question around: how would you go about organizing an actual general strike in a country with low unionization rates, low job and healthcare security, low population density, and a regime captured mass media ecosystem?

"Immunization appointments will be available starting Oct. 14."

Would be nice if Canadian health authorities made it a priority to get updated shots to people BEFORE Thanksgiving, but that would require them to take COVID seriously. Which they really don't wanna do, ever again.

The shots are identical to what Americans got, except they started getting them IN AUGUST. Why are Canadian health authorities so bad at this?
