Houston based CRM archaeologist interested in the late 19th/early 20th century. In particular WWI training camps and conflict sites. I also sometimes have thoughts on movies, beer, and politics. You know, human culture and stuff.

I have a friend who worked at a Great Lakes maritime museum and at least half the requests they received for public outreach talks wanted Edmund Fitzgerald to be the topic.

I have. It's been a few years but I remember enjoying it quite a bit.

#6 Some of the bits are good but the pacing and vibe are sometimes off. Never quite reaches that Sean of the Dead or Tucker & Dale level.

As far as I could tell the only equipment they brought on their weekend field school were two brushes, a tape measure, and a 30 year old map.

#1 Started with the classic Poltergeist. A film referenced every time I work on a cemetery delineation project. "You hire us to avoid a Poltergeist type situation".

My spooky season viewing thread 2025, a mix of re-watches and first time viewings. A 🏺 means there's archaeology involved.

Same asshole who's been burning public money using the Texas National Guard like his own personal stage prop.

Pretty wild story. I hope those involved are able to continue their research into how the stone ended up in a New Orleans backyard.

It could provide a very good case study of just how dispersed collections can become in the wake of conflict. 🏺

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

The GOP primary in Texas for Cornyn's Senate seat is going to be spectacularly insufferable. Pray for those of us in Texas just wanting to watch the MLB playoffs, but forced to constantly see these three assholes talk about who loves trump more.

Following the DOT's lead, Texas is jumping on the discrimination bandwagon and trashing it's Disadvantaged Business program. I'm guessing most red states are following suit. At the link below you can see the letter TxDOT is sending to firms.

1) No one is going to jail for picking up an artifact on public land. We're lucky if straight up traffickers get jail time.
2) Why not ask an archaeologist or Indigenous person about WHY these laws exist?

I saw The Descent in a movie theater in Roswell, New Mexico the night before we took a candlelight tour of Carlsbad Caverns. At one point they turned out all the lights and I could swear I could hear crawlers in the dark.

I won't be surprised if FIFA pulls the games from the US if Trump keeps this up. The threat of disallowing games (something the President should have no power to do in a market economy) is a disruption FIFA must avoid.

We're not at war with Venezuela, these boats are many hundreds of lines from our waters, much less our shores, there is no threat, this is just murder.

I really do think everyone from the SecDef to the guy who pushed the button should be tried for murder on this.

Don’t believe anyone who tells you that intelligence shows anything “without a doubt,” but even if the intelligence was water-tight, this strike was still murder. No law permits the deliberate, premeditated killing of civilians.
