Houston based CRM archaeologist interested in the late 19th/early 20th century. In particular WWI training camps and conflict sites. I also sometimes have thoughts on movies, beer, and politics. You know, human culture and stuff.

Yikes. Rouge Ales was a huge player in the craft brewing world and one of the first to cross over into spirits. The brand is everywhere in Oregon.

If a politician:

-Has never cared at all about whales before;

-Is in the pocket of big oil, an industry which has a financial incentive to oppose alternative energy;

and

-is a well-documented liar,

You don't have to take their "we have to stop offshore wind to save whales" claims seriously.

Just had my second bad run in with poison ivy in three weeks, so it's a round of steroids for me. I am going to eat all the things this thanksgiving.

Private equity just bought Topgolf, so I guess they'll be out of business within a year or so.

Another mystery item from my metal detector survey in Texas. It's a thin disc about the size of a quarter. Three tiny posts on one side, smooth on the other. 🏺

These are critical worker protections. Particularly since it's going to be mid-80's all week, and that is our new normal.

Unfortunately Ken Paxton is probably already asking ChatGPT to write an injunction.

I live in one of the very many Houston town home knockoffs of the original Tin Houses. They aren't much to look at, but they are well suited to the environment (heat, humidity, hurricanes).

Is this my favorite McMansion Hell ever? Maybe?

Also, it's virtually guaranteed that this house in suburban Houston is located on a flood plain and is protected by an insane series of levees that direct flood water downstream at their neighbors.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.
