Hi #PortfolioDay :)

I’m Nix, and I draw illustrations inspired by books and nature. 📚💙🌿
Traditional ink illustration of The Ring from The Lord Of The Rings at the bottom of the riverbed surrounded by sand and seaweed. The drawing uses a limited black a blue color palette. A hand holding a brush pen sits above it. Art by geekycleary. Graphite drawing of winged-woman darting up past the tree line. Birds are flying around her. Sketch by geekycleary. Traditional ink illustration of a stone tower floating in the clouds. A winding staircase travels up the outside of the weathered stone castle, covered in green moss, dangling vines, and plants. Fluffy blue clouds surround the tower. Art by geekycleary. Ink illustration of fantasy scene with a gold glowing sword leaning against a curled and aged tree. A steaming cup of tea and an open book are abandoned on the grass nearby while several birds flying towards a gold, crescent moon is seen overhead. “Remember there’s someone out there reading the same page you are.” - Art and quote by geekycleary.

Thanks, I really liked the style of the house from the reference. All the little details were satisfying to draw.

I’m rereading Mirror Dance which is part of the Vorkosigan Saga by Lois McMaster Bujold for writing inspiration. I love how she writes characters.

Nice! I’m in the middle of Mistborn: The Well of Ascension. I really enjoyed book 1 and have high expectations for book 2.

Hang on as best you can.
Take care of yourself.
Take care of others if you're able.
Sharpen your antlers, put on your best traveling cloak, disappear into the forest, and find other creatures like yourself gathering together in the gloom.

You folks are so good to me

This book by @aimeecozza.com arrived yesterday afternoon. I finished it this morning. It was beautiful start to finish. Reminiscent of the loveliest parts of the Asimov robot novels I grew up adoring so much. Highly recommended.
The Warm Machine: A sci-fi novella about robot love
A brand new novella! When a laborbot first sees an angular, sleek prototype military robot slink onto his worksite, it's love at first sight.

THE WITCHING TREE (2019)
Acrylic on Illustration Board - 6" x 6"

An accidental shape on a scrap of illustration board evoked a sort of Lovecraftian tree. The board originally had a figure sketch on it from the work I did for Lucca Comics & Games. 1/2
With long curls of blonde hair flowing down her back, a naked woman throws her head back and her arms out in reverence while standing in front of a demonic looking tree. Behind her the bare knot of wood shoots out roots and branches wildly. Set randomly in the gnarly wood are eyeballs with squished and oblong pupils.

Nice! That’s really cool. While Discovery wasn’t my favorite show, I still appreciate all the great work that went into it.

Which ST show or game were these storyboards for? I love how dynamic they are.

Happy #StarTrekDay Here’s a marker drawing I did for my husband last Christmas with his ship from a ST writing group.

Thanks! Vin’s a great, and I love how she’s portrayed. Kelsier is one of my favorites as well. His arc went in an entirely different direction than I thought it would.

Thank you! If the rest of the Mistborn series is anything like book 1, I’m sure I will.
geekycleary.bsky.social
Agreed, I’ve only read a few of his books but always enjoyed the curveballs.
geekycleary.bsky.social
That’s making me want to dive back in right away. There are so many threads from book 1. So many directions it could go in.

I can’t wait to read book 2 and will probably start it today.
