Anyway, enjoy me breaking out a thesaurus to avoid using the word "fart" 76 times in 1000 words.

This piece was always going puerile and facetious, but boy do I wish some clips were included, and maybe the italic timestamps (that were entirely editorial, in the hope of including said clips) were edited out, and just... this very silly piece could have been a better reading experience, frankly.

New from me. I took a little bit of time out of my oppressively busy schedule to comb through what may be my favourite current show, Slow Horses, and carefully log and rank every single fart therein (I made a spreadsheet and everything). Hard-hitting journalism for @thedailybeast.bsky.social.
Every Gary Oldman Fart in ‘Slow Horses,’ Ranked
This week marks a very special episode of “Slow Horses”: the return of its famous flatulence. To celebrate, we ranked each one.

One of my favourite PR emails, having recently come off another PR calling me "Graig" in a litany of examples of people being unable to spell my name (thankfully my name isn't customisation, either).
A screenshot of an email in which someone has clearly forgotten to fill in the details of a form press release, which reads:

"Hi First Name There, I'm reaching out to share news on (game redacted) our cozy fantasy life sim currently in Steam Early Access. Today, we've released our first major update, bringing [whatever - so for this one new romanceable NPCs, character customisation, a new region to explore, and the opening of the sauna] to players."

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

This is true across entertainment beats, btw. The amount of times I reach out about screeners and get a "who are you going to write about this for?" The answer is always, I don't know, I've not seen it yet. But I'm starting to hit that wall in games, too, when chasing an indie I'm curious about.
geoffreybunting.bsky.social
There are myriad reasons indie games don't get coverage, but I will add that some indie devs/PR make it *very* difficult to access review codes, or try and gate that behind assurances from freelancers of coverage in very specifics outlets.

“Why isn’t anyone covering our indie games?”

1. The gaming press has been decimated by business suits, and the whims of an uncaring search engine behemoth
2. Doing the job means you get death threats and harassment
3. There are more games released in 1 week than there were in entire months in 2015

I am not into the way folks leverage charity, and in particular disability charities, to try and curry favour for fucking up, by the way.

"Come on Barbei let's go Parkei..."

What if it's not consistent but geometric? It took three months, next its a month and a half, then three weeks, and suddenly you can't move for kei trucks. They're in every parking space, they're outside your house, they're IN your house. You're just a kei truck girl in a kei truck world.

Easy Delivery Co.

What if a cosy delivery game in which you play as a cat driving a kei truck was also influenced by David Lynch?

If you're pre-ordering Bitmap Books' SNES RPG Book, don't. The author of it is a terrible person and shouldn't be supported, as you can see here. Thanks @st1ka.bsky.social for bringing this to light. He's been terrible for years.

Let's hope the book doesn't have a section on Brazil or "third world countries"

You might be surprised at just how many people in the re-burgeoning print area of gaming are at best willing to enable and overlook this kind of behaviour and/or, at worst, are engaging in the same, with a lot of exploitative and concerning bullshit in between.
geoffreybunting.bsky.social
This is a mistake so many online make - and being loosely attached to the gaming industry, I have to see it constantly: reasonable criticism is not harassment. There might be a lot of it, especially if you're acting in an online space, but volume doesn't equal harassment. You just fucked up.

Harassing the mods into banning someone has never worked. And harassing people in general has never changed their mind.
geoffreybunting.bsky.social
Mastodon has a similar, if possibly less dangerous, level of moderator pettiness, as far as I've heard. We might have to start bringing back forums, folks.
geoffreybunting.bsky.social
I’ll add to what others have said, that petty trolling of your user-base for their justifiable concerns over your moderation practices and the ramifications on their safety is not a strong look, especially when actively targeting those that are responsible for your platform’s current reach.

Interesting that Bluesky’s response to both reasonable criticism of its abhorrent treatment of trans folks (and appeasement of transphobes) and its staff’s infantile and petty trolling is to quietly hide the most engaged with criticism in these comment streams.

Interesting that this reply, which was sitting at the top of replies to this post for me, has now miraculously disappeared from the reply stream when I navigate over there...

People should pay me money to conceptualise and write The Lord of the Rings games, I'm just saying.

You know, instead of "what if you played as Gollum escaping Mordor and it's the worst gaming experience you've ever had?"
