Aletheia by Baron Buddies
You wake from stasis 100 years too early; two women present very different stories

It's so puzzling to me how bigots got so much into Signalis to the point of trying to take over a great part of the fandom and try to erase its queerness.

Sure Signalis' story is so vague, I hardly call it a story, but you'd need to be blind to not realize the game made by two queer women is gay

I really wanna how what is probably a whole team of people thought garlic mayo ink was a good marketing idea.

no no the publishing industry is doing fine, why do you ask
A screenshot from Publisher's Lunch:
Jennifer L. Armentrout and Hellmann's
In a promotion designed for BookTok enjoyment, Jennifer L. Armentrout’s just-published THE PRIMAL OF BLOOD AND BONE is available in a special, limited-edition "garlic-scented copy, infused with Hellmann’s Garlic Aioli to create a one-of-a-kind, Craven-proof book." They explain: "This exclusive edition is printed with garlic-infused ink, designed to ward off Armentrout’s bloodthirsty monsters, the Craven. While humans may dread garlic breath, Hellmann’s has cleverly transformed this social faux pas into an unexpected – and delicious – form of supernatural protection."

I can't blame people for taking everything as an attack on their identity I 100% get why, but I think it's important to look and understand why people want sapphic to not be about character identity but about the type of story being told and if it centers a wlw relationship.

#sapphicbooks #sapphic
gertrudegbooks.bsky.social
Their getting from a story the same way other genre tags do. Since for many it's not about the characters you can have sapphic characters in every story even ones not labeled or marketed as queer in any way but instead its about the content of the story itself, and that should be what matters most.
gertrudegbooks.bsky.social
Cause it doe suck to have to dig through reviews to see if a book being hyped up and marketed as sapphic actually centers a wlw relationship, and idk if its just a me thing but how people throw sapphic on just about everything has eroded my trust in what should be a way for readers to know what. 5/
gertrudegbooks.bsky.social
they don't mean it as a personal attack on you or your characters. Instead it comes from the desire to have a word that makes wlw stories easy for readers to find that they can have trust in. So when they pick it up they know its gonna be a wlw story, and I think that's a completely fair want. 4/
gertrudegbooks.bsky.social
People have with "sapphic books" is that when people use it a lot of the times they are referring to is a a genre of story where a wlw relationship is front and center to the plot and one of those characters is the protagonist. They are treating it the same way yuri/gl is treat in asia as a genre 3/
gertrudegbooks.bsky.social
Please bare with me on this and follow along I know my first post probably made people mad, but hear me out. Would you recommend or call a series like naruto a romance? No right cause it doesn't match the criteria of the genre even if characters in it do get together. This is the same issue 2/x
gertrudegbooks.bsky.social
I think the problem with "sapphic books" is that it doesn't separate genre identity from personal identity and it gets a lot of people mixed up because of it so when people say a book isn't a "sapphic book" it gets people upset cause they view it as a personal attack. 1/x

With the #toxicyurivnjam now wrapped up and the winners declared, I am proud to say that we did not win. 😌 However; if you're looking for a game about women doomed on a spaceship and the choices they make; with reviews like: "super amazing" and: "it stressed me tf out" Aletheia is the game for you!

another 10 years of edelgard discourse.
gertrudegbooks.bsky.social
my goal for sapphic September is to finish to the tomes and teas series.
gertrudegbooks.bsky.social
Not really sure since I thought I was gonna focus more on fluffier more light hearted stories and I have those in my production line which would count as leaning heavily towards queer joy but also ummmmm Aletheia is very much not that. So for my it just depends on what I'm going for in something.
danifinnwrites.bsky.social
On the subject of queer joy & queer suffering in fiction, I think of it as a spectrum, and each writer and each reader has a comfort zone on that spectrum, for whatever reason.

My sweet spot as an author is about 70% joy and 30% suffering, give or take 20% for either.

What’s yours?

Sighing deeply as I add jester yuri to my ever growing pile of yuri concepts that I want to write after I mentioned it in a drunk discord call, and now its stuck in my head. #lesbian #lesbianauthors #wlwauthors #wlwbooks #wlw #yuri

while not actually providing it to them. Like I'm sorry if you market a book as sapphic I think it's completely fair for people to be expecting a story where a sapphic relationship is central to the story.
gertrudegbooks.bsky.social
I really wish the way people used it didn't turn me off from using sapphic as a way to market stories. It's such a shame since it could have been a way to have a clear way to advertise generally wlw stories but its become clear people can't not use it to bait in people searching for those stories.
gertrudegbooks.bsky.social
So it's been over a month since Aletheia's release and we'll probs make a bigger post on our group page but it still feels surreal to me that we actually completed it even if it wasn't the most ambitious project it was really a first for a lot of us.

This also feels unfairly targeted at trans women tbh.
gertrudegbooks.bsky.social
I'm all for expanding your horizons but I feel like its such a narrow view point that the only way to do that are through trad published works is a really flawed way to look at it. Since a lot of people only read trad published stuff and read one type of fiction.
gertrudegbooks.bsky.social
I hate how completely not shocking this is given how people tend to view wlw art. my groups game for the game jam wasn't affected but it still pisses me off to know others were especially since theirs so little celebration of wlw stories and art in the first place.
