Bataille was so real for this
Excerpt from the introduction to Georges Bataille’s “The Absence of Myth” - “His first public comment on surrealism had come in response to a letter inviting him to participate in what was to be a notorious meeting of the Surrealist Group to discuss the implications of Leon Trotsky's expulsion from the USSR, which brought a refusal from Bataille in the most forthright and uncompromising terms: ‘too many fucking idealists.’”

I’ve been saying for a while that a lot of right wing ideology amounts to oppositional defiance disorder applied to a general worldview and Sally is really working to prove me right.

Ratio me. Please. It's a badge of honor. If you don't like a link, go follow some chicken-heart who needs the approval of the thought-police. Caitlin Flanagan of @theatlantic.com is a tremendous writer and this piece is an excellent read. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Hey St. John’s pals, I’ve got a short film playing at Fog Fest next month. Come say hi or whatever.
Poser for my short film SIGNAL/NOISE featuring a close up of a woman’s face as she holds an 80s style phone receiver to her face with VHS tracking noise in the middle of the image and the title in red text.

Oh look, another Atlantic writer laundering the reputation of a fascist.

This is really smart. Amazed at the hysteria over the ascendance of a woman entrepreneur who clearly knows how to cover and sell news and who's not afraid to take on a mob. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Chapter 3 of Alberto Toscano’s “Late Fascism” is about this exact phenomenon.

I think the last few months have shown how describing a particular far right ethos as "anti-government" has kind of fallen apart

New article out this month on how doctors become fascists.

50% of German physicians joined the Nazi Party––twice the proportion of any other profession. US doctors today are arguably the most conservative in the world, and we're heading along a similar path.

I often urge law students to be precise when and where they use passive language, and to notice the work it does when used by others (judges, politicians, reporters, and anyone describing actions being done without actors). This is a great, but awful, example.

Classic CBC. "Bill could lead to law enforcement acting more freely in Canada"

How does a US bill lead to this, without Canada actively allowing this? Can we use the active voice? Can we actually use words the way that journalists are supposedly able to?

the correct response to scaremongering about trans kids in sports is:
1) kids should be able to play sports with their friends
2) you want the government inspecting yr kid’s genitals? asking for chromosome and hormone tests? seems messed up!
3) sports governing bodies also already figured this out

There is no such thing as a technology that is not biased towards the historical conditions under which it was created, no matter how badly nerds want to convince you otherwise.

The administration “is currently pressuring OpenAI and other AI companies to make their models more conservative-friendly.”
OpenAI is trying to clamp down on ‘bias’ in ChatGPT

I’m not sure if it’s the newest macOS update or the newest Resolve update because I updated both around the same time last week but anything I do in Resolve lately makes it freeze for like forty-five seconds and I am going to smash my computer with a hammer real soon.
