In Australia, I met Italians who had been there decades but spoke little English. The next generation, however, did & were fully integrated. Same in Spain. Lots of Brits can't speak Spanish, but their kids who've gone to local schools are fluent and mix with people from all over.

🧵 When I moved to Australia & Spain, I moved in with family to start with. In Hanoi, I chose to live close to work amongst locals, but most of my colleagues lived in areas catering to English speakers. It's normal for migrants to gravitate towards the familiar. /

When I first moved back to Europe from downunder, I lived in Marbella because that's where my sister-in-law was. It was full of people out to make a fast buck off of new-build property. After the 2008 crash, there was a mass exodus to Dubai. I have zero interest in ever visiting.

Federal agents aren’t trying to keep the peace. They want violence to escalate so that Trump can declare martial law.
