#ESAEuclid peers through a dark cloud’s dusty veil to reveal a place teeming with very young stars ✨

While investigating the nature of the dark Universe, Euclid is also delivering observations such as this one that enable research in different fields of astronomy 👉 www.esa.int/ESA_Multimed... 🔭

"A spokesperson said funds had to be raised by April 2026 and they needed the public's help to secure it."

AKA You give us your hard earned cash & we'll give it to two people.

BTW £3.5 million is c.100 curator salaries.

Honestly. We all need to read this. The amount of money apparently being spent, which could instead be being invested in our museum services is horrific.

Next figures from DCMS/PAS are due in the next month or two. How bad will they be?

Hot chicks in your barn right now. At least, pleasantly warm, incredibly fluffy chicks.

Listening in to a meeting of radio astronomers: direct-to-cell satellites are SO BRIGHT that even though they're following the rules and broadcasting in their allocated bands, they destroy astronomical observations across a huge swath of frequencies.

Today's challenge: modify my "billionaires dropping garbage on us from orbit" talk to be informative for farmers who found actually space debris in their fields, while not scaring the crap out of the grade 5 students who are going to come listen too.

💖 What lies at the heart of this spiral galaxy?

The luminous galactic centre of NGC 4102 is powered by a supermassive black hole.

Hubble has returned after 11 years to the spiral to study this region better. Read more 👉 esahubble.org/images/potw2...

The moon is very bright, but there are very faint auroras, too! (The pillars are just barely naked-eye visible, they look amazing in a few second exposure! The red colour on top is completely invisible naked-eye.)
If this isn't a nice, calming scene for your Monday morning, then I don't know what is.
I keep thinking "surely today is the last day I'll get the goats out in the electronet pasture" and then the snow melts and the weather gets (somewhat) nicer again. Not a whole lot of grass left, but the goats (and dogs and llama) definitely do appreciate a change of scenery.
