Papa Smurf wears a Phrygian cap, most often associated with the French Revolution, indicating Smurf Village had a monarchy it has since overthrown. This makes Papa Smurf, de facto head of state post-revolution, akin to Robespierre. In this essay I will —
An image of Papa Smurf, a small blue man with a white beard. He’s wearing red trousers that lead into shoes and a red cap that slouches forward.

Hello, people of North Wales!

I’m coming to Bangor on Friday to do a lovely event called Ask A Historian, where you can ask me anything about history — tickets still available. All part of Bangor’s 1500th anniversary!

And @katewilliamsme.bsky.social is there too

We did it! Thanks so much to everyone who came to the Union Chapel gig today (and watched at home!). We premiered our cartoon, got Bunny + Monkey on stage to draw each other, and thanks to audience suggestions we drew a comic about bums + toilet bushes.I also got to hang with Max, who dressed as me!

The Ian Watkins story was utterly horrific and shocking when it was first revealed. It also had a devastating effect on his former band mates in Lost Prophets, as explored in Ian Winwood’s sobering book Bodies about the dark side of the rock music industry

The insomnia is a hellish curse, I would gladly trade a good night’s rest for the super power of woeful timekeeping!

Years of chronic insomnia has given me a weirdly accurate internal clock, so I can often guess the time within an accuracy range of a few minutes

Thrilled to share a clip from our funny new children's audiobook about the Stone Age. I had such fun writing and narrating this with the brilliant archaeologist @brennawalks.bsky.social

In this clip, join Homo Erectus on a scavenging hunt... but they're in for a nasty, LOUD surprise! (Sound on!)
