Today's stacks from Alan Scott: Green Lantern #2 & #3 (probably one of my favorite single issues I've ever lettered). By T. Sheridan, C. Tormey & M. Herms.

Check out the density of these pages! I feel like the stacks are akin to sports heat maps, in showing what parts of a page are more used.

What’s the book you wish you could reread for the first time and why is it Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier?

I misread this image so badly that I can only really hope to illustrate what I saw.

( Also a good excuse for an #art study )

The second you put a fictional character above a real human being, YOU are the problem. Theres no ifs, buts or ands about it.

Not happy with what you read, fair enough, critique of the work is fine. Threaten a real human being over it? YOU ARE ONCE AGAIN THE PROBLEM.

See how that works?

And just because I want it clear

Hey

Criticism is fine

It’s great

It’s needed

And in this particular instance I probably agree with the criticism (I haven’t read it so I don’t have anything to criticize yet)

Telling someone to die is not criticism lol

Page rates for comics creators have remained stagnant for decades.

Men continue to write female characters as objectified and sexualized fantasies for the Big Two.

EVERYTHING IS JUST GREAT.

I post a new version of this every other year or so, and every year comic book page rates stay the same. Five years ago, people were getting paid $240 in '25 dollars; today they are getting the same $150 a page.
The one about comic book page rates – again. News flash: Comic book page rates are STILL stagnant, after all these years, and for indie cartoonists it's even harder

Another month, another superhero comic that really needed a sensitivity reader and is now being met with a mix of criticism the creators should probably listen to and death threats/wishes that will ensure they don’t listen to that criticism.

Happy Editor Appreciation Day to all of the editors who have made my messy weird drafts into something presentable.
By the way, it's National Editor Appreciation Day.

Nobody ever reads a great article and thinks, "Dang, that was some tight editing." But editing is a big part of how it got to be great.

So writers, if you've ever worked with a good editor, shout 'em out.

For graphic novels, especially adult genre fiction, it's incredibly helpful to review it online, talk about it, recommend it to a friend—adult fiction in the graphic novel space is difficult to place, and nothing convinces readers that they'll like a book more than the personal testimonial.
If you like an author's work, the best thing you can do is buy it. The second best thing you can do is ask your local library to buy it. Or, do both!
A reminder that the median book deal for a debut author in the UK is £7000, paid over 12-18 months. (from 2022 Society of Authors report). Some of your favourite writers are struggling. societyofauthors.org/2022/12/06/a....

John Byrne writing this text & drawing this panel: yeah this will definitely be fine and the letterer definitely won’t want to kill me at all
Comics artists who work with writers, I am doing a class for young comics writers and I would like to include some ANONYMOUS quotes from artists about things they hate getting in scripts. More "17-panel pages and cross dialogue" than "horses and bicycles". My DMS are open. SECRECY ASSURED.
