I post a new version of this every other year or so, and every year comic book page rates stay the same. Five years ago, people were getting paid $240 in '25 dollars; today they are getting the same $150 a page.
The one about comic book page rates – again. News flash: Comic book page rates are STILL stagnant, after all these years, and for indie cartoonists it's even harder

This is the same Vanity Fair that laid off @rilaws.bsky.social and @brezwrites.bsky.social

Are they wearing hats made of mercury over there?
I regret to inform you there is more Olivia Newzzi: the print VF will feature a nude portrait by artist Isabelle Brourman that is also destined for Art Basel Miami Beach. Notably, its inclusion appears be a surprise to VF staff. VF looking worse and worse here. www.artnews.com/art-news/new...

Thousands of outdoor dining areas might not return to the city's roadways next spring, the result of what activists call a costly approval process created by the Adams administration when the program became seasonal.
Outdoor Dining Has Faded Out — And Not Just Because It's Winter - Streetsblog New York City
From thousands of pandemic-era eateries to perhaps just a few hundred, thanks to a seasonal, not year-round, program.

Be like Ed.
This manga series has become an annual re-read for me. Showa A History of Japan by Shigeru Mizuki. Excellent!

By the way, it's National Editor Appreciation Day.

Nobody ever reads a great article and thinks, "Dang, that was some tight editing." But editing is a big part of how it got to be great.

So writers, if you've ever worked with a good editor, shout 'em out.

I had a couple of interviews today with potential Beat/KCB contributors. Both women. Both mentioned that they have had problems with stalkers. It's been a constant thing I've heard during this process.

THIS IS SO FUCKING UNCOOL WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?!???!??!???!?

I enjoyed Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein, but I couldn't help but be struck by how much the design for his Creature, played by Jacob Elordi, resembles the design I did for Scholastic Books back in the late 1990s. We both paid attention to the source material.

Elise Stefanik went from being Trump’s main ally to getting passed over for UN ambassador, defending racist Republicans and now discarded in favor of a “communist”

And Stephen Miller’s attacks on NYC were completely undercut by Trump

Maybe Zohran Mamdani should visit the White House every day

Game

Knows

Game

Trump instinctively recognized Mamdani’s charisma and like a snail reacting to salt, knew that he cannot overcome his youthful energy with old man rants!

That’s my take anyway!
Donald Trump endorsed Zohran Mamdani more enthusiastically than many mainstream Democrats.

Correct me if I'm wrong but............did this very knowledgable video maker who will get 1000s of views with this video actually tell the story of manga's rise and leave out women and girls?

I know women get left out of history all the time but this is ridiculous and insulting.

Okay, this is a pleasant surprise. Genuinely didn't expect any trace of this building to still exist. Looks like it's heavily renovated, but I'm happy to see that they kept the central structure.

The simple answer for why Funko failed is private equity.
They were bought by a private equity firm (and later sold to another).
Everything private equity touches ends up degraded or destroyed.
They squeeze every dollar out and leave the desiccated corpse for someone else to deal with.
