Heart-shaped Box of Memories: A "Princess Ai" Retrospective - Megan D explores the origins of Princess Ai, its cynical merchandising and multimedia plans, and its whimper of an exit from the market in a biting essay.

Heart-shaped Box of Memories: A Princess Ai Retrospective
What began as one of Tokyopop’s first forays into original English language content became a fandom-wide joke thanks to the company’s increasingly desperate attempts to make it a multi-media success. Twenty years have passed since its debut, so it’s time to face the music and trace its rise and fall from grace.

We can start with this

Where do you physically/literally read the comics that you read?

-do you read the New York Daily News comics section on the number 6 train?

-do you have a stack of Deadpool comics in a rack next to your toilet?

-do you read graphic novels in an EZ chair?

Who ARE you?

i've been doing a lot of graphic novel posting and reader enthusiasm isn't the magic bullet that's gonna fix comics but (MY VIEWS AND OPINIONS ARE MY OWN) it actually wouldn't take that many readers actively buying and talking about graphic novels to shift the adult graphic novel industry.

A lot of indie bookstores will buy 1–3 copies of a book, especially graphic novels as a test to see how they sell. If they sell even 1–3 copies, it opens the door not just for a reorder of that book, but for more books in that format in general.
I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

Taking this opportunity to say again that Motherlover by Lindsay Ishihiro is one of my favorite books of all time! It's about two mothers falling in love with each other and learning to build a family together and it captures the energy of my life in a way I've seen no other book do
For graphic novels, especially adult genre fiction, it's incredibly helpful to review it online, talk about it, recommend it to a friend—adult fiction in the graphic novel space is difficult to place, and nothing convinces readers that they'll like a book more than the personal testimonial.
If you like an author's work, the best thing you can do is buy it. The second best thing you can do is ask your local library to buy it. Or, do both!
