Like, here’s last year’s:

I’m not trying to be a jerk, but I am unimpressed by this year’s butter sculpture.

But also, on our way home from the fair…

Pure summer. Good vibes only. Very bowling alley when you’re 10 vibes.

Got a favorite? I’m fond of the sand blaster in House of Wax.

Went to the Texas State Fair today. Tried a bunch of interesting food, but the winner for me by far were the Dubai chocolate funnel cake fries. (In case you’re unfamiliar, the green there is pistachio cream.) Phenomenal. 10/10.

I thought my yearly performance review was late because they were figuring out how to promote me or move me into a new role. Nope, they just forgot.

You ever think about how cool feathers are? I mean, just pause for a second and think about them: hollow shafts, and then these strands of highly specialized material arranged in precise lines to catch wind. But there are different sizes! And textures! So like hair, but WAY cooler.

Vanity Fair apparently did an oral history of it at one point. It is legendary.

TIL about the Folgers incest commercial.

It is, on the surface, a commercial about a guy who comes home from the Peace Corps, and his sister is so excited that she stays up all night and greets him at the door with coffee. Sweet.

Except the actors has juuuuust a bit too much chemistry.

Google it.

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

Oh, Dale, I’m so sorry.

The core issue with stuff written by AI isn't that it's bad or incorrect, per se (though the facts may be inaccurate), it's that it's fluffy. A bunch of grammatically correct sentences that say absolutely *nothing*. It's cotton candy. People see the lovely language and think "nailed it!"

Oof. How to tell someone "I can tell you used AI to write this, and I can tell you don't know why that's a problem." without making them feel bad.

That's totally fair! I just looked the other day, and I've played 621 hours of The Long Dark. (Over many years, to be fair, but still.)

It is genuinely hilarious to me how obsessed with puritanical morality these ghouls are, given how they behave with literally everything else.
