Janet remains a standout in any list she’s in!
This screenshot is not actually a very good case for '89 being a bad year for pop music, but I've perused some of those Hot 100s and lemme tell ya, the bad stuff is much more numerous and much, much more bad than in most years
People need to stop retconning literally the worst era in American popular music history into something it wasn't, just because there were also some amazing records that like 250 people happened to be hunting down and listening to

Lauryn Hill just shared a moving tribute to the late D’Angelo:
This is crazy. RIP 🥺 A once in a lifetime talent.
Danity Kane reuniting but I’m still waiting on Dumblonde to come out with their third album.
I’m starting to think poptimism was a mistake.

Like, weebs in America have all the smoke for Disney (granted, deserved) but then it’s crickets when their fav anime company acts worse.
Yall do know that Japan is conservative and xenophobic af, right? They don’t care.
HAPPY FAT BEAR WEEK EVERYONE! THE GREATEST WEEK OF THE YEAR
This was my favorite song from that album back in 2007. Glad to see yall catching up. Next up, listen to Skin (Loud) and Watch n Learn (Talk That Talk).
Today in "No New Music" music news: Rihanna's "Breakin' Dishes," an album cut from 2007, reaches the Hot 100.
Not even going to mention the accolades and numbers, as music isn’t about that, but her success during this time (sales and concert tour) exemplify the hold she had on the public with this project. She should be very proud of this. Cheers, Jan, Jam & Lewis. This still holds up well decades later.
A risky gamble, and a little too broad, but this *was* pop music coming from a 23-year-old sheltered woman, but the spirit and message are there, aided by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis’ production and songwriting. Fantastic from start to finish and a crowning achievement in a career full of them.
Yes, there was carefree, sunny bops (Escapade, Alright, Love Will Never Do) & her ballads & bedroom jams (Come Back To Me & Someday Is Tonight), but half the record was devoted to drugs (Black Cat), education (The Knowledge), school shootings (Livin’ In A World) & homelessness (State of the World).
Imagine following up your huge breakthrough album that spawned an entire sub-genre (new jack swing) with a socially conscious album. Do you know the guts that had to take? And this wasn’t in the era of poptimism like we are in now. Janet knew she’d be ripped apart by critics, and some weren’t kind.
Making me take the side of Jimmy Kimmel. 😑 Too far.
Convincing Janet to come outside from her years long hiatus is a flex, but I think it’s just Cardi rapping over that Funny How Time Flies sample she posted a snippet of awhile back.
Features in Cardi B’s ‘AM I THE DRAMA?’ have been unveiled:

• Summer Walker
• Selena Gomez
• Kehlani
• Lizzo
• Tyla
• Cash Cobain
• Janet Jackson
• Megan Thee Stallion
It’s one thing to make good music. Great music even! But to pretend you’re a revolutionary whilst greedily hoarding wealth and doing stuff that harms your own people is a special kind of cognitive dissonance.
I like their music, but billionaires gonna billionaire. These are awful people who say one thing in public and fund and vote differently in private. Bey been on my shitlist since the native thing earlier this summer. Don’t think for a second these greedy fucks care about you.
Beyonce & Jay-Z held a fundraiser where they seated themselves next to Jared Kushner & Ivanka Trump.

When will the poor have as much class solidarity as the billionaires?
Crazy how the lasting cultural legacy of Half-Life will end up being skibidi toilet.
Yeah Twitter is still unfortunately superior because it’s a party over there.
