Most of the time now if someone has some nonsense or even bad take, I let it go and live my life.

God knows I disagree with Ari on plenty. I feel there's a hard limit to the efficiency and ethics of "respectability politics", it's certainly a strategy, but not a winning one on its own, and one most of us can't follow... and that's the least of my disagreements.

But she's never come off as cruel

Exactly... saying regrettably dumb shit on the internet does not equate to being evil or cruel and I really wish more people got that.

I understand being on the defensive. But there's always gonna be disagreements, there's always gonna be ill-conceived comments. That doesn't make a bad person.

Like..... this is not a movie I expected to leave me with deep thoughts. But that tends to happen when you tap into the surreal.... and this film is an acid trip that sets in like a ghost pepper.

Sitting with my thoughts on this movie late at night.... not scary thoughts.... but I'm just fascinated.

It's a fascinating meditation on the purpose of art. Is it to heal? To ward off our own demons and insecurities? To gently guide other people out of a darkness you are born to live with? So on.

Finally watched MR. JONES after all these years..... what a bizarre film.

The way it breaks its own found footage format through surreal dream logic.... it's honestly one of the most creative FF movies I've seen at a result. And that twist is a wild swing, but makes sense in its own way.

I dig it.

Finally showed Jen one of my favorite films, I AM NOT A SERIAL KILLER.

An excellent Christopher Lloyd performance, beautiful 16mm aesthetic, very unconventional approach to an almost Rear Window cat-and-mouse story (with the smallest hair of Apt Pupil)... A genuinely great and overlooked film.

Whether we like it or not, we are not either purely individualistic or a collective.... we're a hybrid of both. And being trans is honestly a perfect embodiment of that duality.... You need an economic system that better represents that.

The best bet we have in America (just my opinion) is creating a more inclusive, democratic mixed economy (socialism AND capitalism) with a greatly increased minimum wage, where it is easier for people to live comfortably and recieve the care they need (or want) whenever they want or need it.

Money's still always gonna buy something better with more sophisticated craftsmanship, and within a shorter, more manageable time frame.

That's reality. The higher quality of product or service, the more costly it's going to be. You really can't fix that in a communist system.

And sure, it would be amazing to make this kind of care more accessible than it is for lower class people, and we can through socialist policies.... that will probably never be implemented within our lifetime. And that's a long term goal to fight for.... but even then?

It is not bourgeoisie to be trans, not in the slightest. As a poor trans person who knows of even poorer trans people, I know that's not true. And so does Ari... BUT... I also know that (in America) I will never be able to obtain quality bottom surgery unless I reach that comfortable, middle class.

The best retort that people have to offer is the example of Cuba's free, trans inclusive healthcare. Which yes, that's wonderful and all, but the consistency and quality of that care is not all it's cracked up to be. Greatly due to lack of resources (which yes, is affected by the US, but still)....

Again, responses to this are fucking insane.... is it the best post ever? No. But it's not a "fuck you, I got mine" gloat fest or saying that poor trans people don't deserve healthcare.... it's poorly worded, but poking holes in the idea that Communism is the answer to us receiving quality care.

I understand how scary shit is out there. I do... but you also have to understand that they are losing right now. It may not feel like we're winning, and it's taking a toll on us. But succumbing to that fear and eating eachother is exactly what they want.

Stop it and take care of yourself.

It should be interesting to see how next year goes for the DCU, as it's the first year without any James Gunn-helmed project.

Supergirl, Clayface, and Lanterns are all promising.... not sore where they're at with that Blue Beetle show.

Like, GOTG Vol. 2&3 are still his very best work.... By far. (this is even counting Slither and Super, which are also awesome)

But I'm excited to see where he goes next, with MAN OF TOMORROW.... him focusing in on Lex is gonna be interesting.
