This walk from Chagford in #Dartmoor explores part of the Teign River valley along very easy to follow paths/tracks. The majority is fairly level, apart from a relatively moderate climb to Cranbrook Castle. Should be good for Autumn colour. See www.happyhiker.co.uk/MyWalks/Devo...

Countryside staff have been cut to the bone by LA’s because of funding reductions. LA’s will hope to just ignore these problems if they can. Don’t let them! If walkers give up and paths are not used as a result, eventually they could get closed for ever!

30,000 blocked footpaths.

If you come across one, be sure to report to the relevant local authority. Many LA’s do not make it easy to find the footpaths officer’s contact details!

For an effective report see example below. Add OS reference and reference from LA Definitive Map.

Located near Keld, Wainwath Falls is a wide, scenic waterfall on the River Swale. Though modest in height (just 1.5–3 metres), its charm lies in its tranquil setting beneath the limestone cliffs of Cotterby Scar.

A public footpath in #Ilkley is to be closed temporarily for safety reasons.

The order comes into effect at 7am on Monday, 29 September 2025, and is scheduled to remain in place until 7pm on 24 April 2026.

Not quite “in Ilkley” but close enough for the YP!

At this time of year, with UK summer weather coming to an end, many people’s thoughts turn to winter sun holidays. A favourite destination for me is #Lanzarote in the #CanaryIslands. If you are lucky enough to be going there I have some walk suggestions at www.happyhiker.co.uk/MyWalks/Lanz...

Park Fell and Simon Fell are less well known and little visited #YorkshireDales hills, yet this route up them , taking advantage of Access Land designation, provides great views. It can also be an alternative way to climb Ingleborough. See www.happyhiker.co.uk/MyWalks/York...

As my followers will know, I like a good pub and boy does the White Swan in Warenford qualify. During a recent fortnight in #Northumberland, I ate there several times. Not ‘pub grub’ but a top quality, varied menu at reasonable prices and great real ale. For a meal, book!

This is a really good guide from The Bald Hiker with great advice for walking the Yorkshire Three Peaks. I have done this walk twice (once in each direction) and for what it is worth, I preferred the anti clockwise way. See www.baldhiker.com/the-ultimate...

This walk takes you to the north westerly corner of #Devon with its lighthouse & Hartland quay. However, the star of the show is the geology of the cliffs all along the route which show off spectacularly the folded strata. See www.happyhiker.co.uk/MyWalks/Devo...
