I think it’s so unserious how people online are having discourse over lesbian fujoshis & himejoshi-fujoshi superiority during a time when queerphobia is at an all time high.
Stop making up things to be mad about & focus on the real problems at hand.

Mejor me devuelvo aquí.

Maison Ikkoku imo is the best manga Rumiko Takahashi has ever done. The character development, the theme of let go and start again in Kyoko's story, the growth in Godai's story and the slowburn that resolves in a very satisfying way between Godai and Kyoko will always be of my favorites.

Pride and Prejudice. Romeo and Juliet. The Notebook. These are some of the stories considered the greatest romances of all time, but to me, none of them compares to Maison Ikkoku.

I miss fansubs. they did way better jobs at subtitles than the companies themselves. the additional context on the side, changes in playful font or movements in text. some fansub groups were amazing and added to the experience of watching subbed anime

priestess in the book. Idk, maybe I'm biased lol, but I'm interested what Watase has in store for Byakko!

may remain the highest point of the Fushigi Yuugi trilogy, mostly because Takiko's story is the one with the more gravitas, defined by her sacrifice and her death at a young age as well the love between her and Rimudo/Uruki that surpassed death, not to mention how hard she had to work as the first

up and then Suzuno meets him again as a young man, I wouldn't be happy if Subaru just ages him up with her magic, but let's wait and see.

That being said, while I like Byakko Senki, I think nothing will top Genbu Kaiden for me. I think Watase really outdid herself with that one and+

+with her despite she loves Nirusha, who while he cares about her, seems like he's also using her.

Suzuno indeed is going to marry Seiji, but I feel weird that she's thinking so much on Tatara when it comes to marriage while he's still a kid, I hope there's a timeskip in the book where he grows+

Byakko Senki spoilers:

Watase is taking her time with this one, I love the build up in the palace's harem because that's something that wasn't explored in the previous installments, plus Neiran is indeed a very interesting antagonist, I wonder if she'll end up with the emperor? He seems smitten+

Also, notice the contrast between Nina's "I want you to be happy" to Az vs "I wanted to make you happy" with Sett. I think this gives us a clue that Az may be able to put himself back and continuing his life without Nina but she'll stay with Sett.
harukotoba.bsky.social
You know, re reading those chapters again gives me the impression Nina was falling in love with him in Galgada before Az appeared. The fact that afterwards she always put Sett first makes me think that subconsciously she already was falling for him.

Much of why Makoto Yukimura wrote series like Planetes and Vinland Saga the way he did, with hope, kindness, and pacifism in mind, stems from his childhood reading Fist of the North Star and having a playful gripe about how its first two chapters unfolded.
io9: As a creator who’s inspired many, are there any series you grew up with that sparked your desire to become a mangaka and write a tale like Vinland Saga?

Yukimura: Every time somebody asks me that question, the one series that really comes to my mind is Fist of the North Star. It’s a little bit different from simple admiration, but I had chapters two and three of Fist of the North Star always hung up in my mind. I analyzed myself, [saying] that was a big contributing factor that led to me writing a story like Vinland Saga. (Laughs) Don’t worry, I will explain this. In chapters two and three, the main character, Kenshiro, meets this old man who has a handful of rice grains that he wants to bring back to his village. This old man is getting attacked by bad guys, and Kenshiro fights them off. But then, unfortunately, this old man gets beaten and killed by these bad guys, so Kenshiro has to get after them again. Just when he was about to pass away, the old man says to Kenshiro, “Please bring these grains of rice back to the village so people don’t have to fight over food anymore.”

What does Kenshiro do? He did not bring the grains of rice back to the village and start growing them! (Laughs) I could not believe this. When I read these chapters of Fist of the North Star, I was maybe six or seven years old. I was thinking, “Why Kenshiro? Why didn’t you stop by and bring the grains back to the village, make a rice field, and bring water? This could really have changed the outlook of this society! For Kenshiro being such a strong man, why didn’t he do this?” I really didn’t understand why this was the case, and for some 20-some years, I had this question within me, which brought me to writing the story of Vinland Saga. I don’t want any confusion, but I do really like Fist of the North Star, though.
