I really wanted to write a blog where I imparted sage advice about how to live with the constant suspicion of AI without letting that suspicion erode your soul, but uh... well
It’s no wonder that widespread paranoia over all this has taken hold. If even the people making things can’t be sure they aren’t using AI (or at least claim they aren’t sure), how can their audience be confident? And while vigilance is healthy and warranted, what does it mean–especially these days–when we feel like we can’t trust anything we see? False accusations of AI use can harm a person’s academic or artistic career, and it’s also just bad for all of our souls and brains to be constantly on high alert. It makes us prone to distrust and dismissiveness, leaving us less open to other people’s creative works and making it harder for them to share it, especially if they’re still developing their skills. AI is already eroding trust, and our heightened suspicion can make us hostile not just to the work, but to each other. It’s not good for creators or their audiences to live like this, and it’s certainly not a good environment for anyone to try to make things in. But! “Let’s all show each other some grace, huh?” is not a lesson I can impart to you in the situations above, both of which prove that suspicion was warranted and that the accusations might have been correct. If anything, they suggest that even more suspicion is called for, when the people denying AI use themselves might not even know if they can truthfully deny it. So now how are you supposed to live, pinned between the slow spiritual death of thinking everyone around you is full of shit and the world-eating encroachment of the full-of-shit machine?

Happy Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc digital release eve. I spoke with composer Kensuke Ushio about how he made me cry with his score, summer's end.
Kensuke Ushio, composer for anime works like Devilman Crybaby, Dan Da Dan, and Ping Pong The Animation, has earned a strong reputation for sonic excellence among anime aficionados. But when the Chainsaw Man composer first read Tatsuki Fujimoto’s lauded Shonen Jump series, his reaction was a common refrain for anyone who read the series: “I fell in love with it, but at the same time I also thought, this is insane.” As the battle-tested connective tissue for for the tonal ping pong between heartbreak and action of the TV series, pressure was on for Ushio to cook up a soundtrack as musically insane enough to underscore its first theatrical film, Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc. It's safe to say Ushio cooked up yet another generational banger—this time of the peak emotional damage variety.

late last week, workers of different stripes gathered outside rockstar's nyc office for a protest in solidarity with fired devs in the uk/scotland. the message, as fired rockstar workers head into a hearing this week, is that they've got global support, and bosses can't hide
ast Friday evening, despite the bitter cold, around 50 people gathered outside Grand Theft Auto VI developer Rockstar’s office in Manhattan to protest the October firing of 34 workers in the UK and Scotland who had engaged in union organizing activity. Chants like “Steal lambos, not wages” were accompanied by signs that read “No workers, no GTA” and “Bad boss = bad game.” The protest was put on by the Tech Workers Coalition, a labor rights group with chapters around the US. Gershom (who declined to share his last name), a developer with the Tech Workers Coalition, told Aftermath that the goal of the protest was to keep pressure on Rockstar and show support for fired workers as they head into a UK court hearing this week. "We're connected with the Rockstar workers in the UK who were fired, and they asked us to help organize international solidarity actions to show Rockstar that it can't hide attacks on workers in one country anywhere else,” Gershom said. “We want to take it to the New York offices and show [the bosses] that no matter where they are, we're gonna be here letting people know what they're doing to their workers and letting their customers know what they're doing to their workers."
