I had a great time on Aftermath talking about how you can use Assassin’s Creed as a method of tracing the pathway to the world we live in.

The Assassin’s Creed series was a canary in the coal mine for our modern, engagement-obsessed world. @ckunzelman.bsky.social explains:

a fun idea to support progressive media would be to take the billions about to be lost here and redirect it towards the people who have spent the last three years ringing the alarm bell

the 2k5 games were some "peak of civilization" type shit, their secrets are lost to us now in this age of darkness

some say we're so back, others that it's so over, but I remain resolute in my view that it is what it is

i know my "this should be illegal" stance sounds stupid, and at face value it is, and im not saying companies should be obligated to keep everything online forever.

but if those companies want to delete archives there should be SOME kind of process that involves archiving and exporting the data

like i say in the post, they'd basically been mothballed for years, but its the archives--representing a time the site DID mean something--that are important here. without them this site is nothing, so losing them in favour of AI slop is just...yeah.

with zero notice given to anyone who had ever worked there, and who have now lost any of their work not already archived

just using human brains: why would the bird have legs and wings AND one arm

its prob the same reason we pronounce a lot of words wrong: that the correct way sounds stupid in this accent

the BEST ones know this, which is why they obsess over, and are very good at, finding the "right" job for them, whether its roster or personnel management or power behind the scenes or playing style.

Good time to remember that there are no truly great coaches in any sport. Literally none, ever. There are shitty ones and decent ones and pretty good ones, but the good ones only ever look great when they have elite talent, and will look mediocre or even shitty as soon as they don't.

those things are related!
