As a transgender woman trying to just live a simple quiet life in the UK, I'm pretty well placed to say this paragraph is complete bullshit and this government are shameless liars as well as hateful bigots who are actively shutting me out of participation in society.

… contains the following:

‘The UK is unwavering in its commitment to the protection and promotion of human rights for all, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and other LGBT+ individuals.’

Slow it down; lower the stakes. Again, & again, & again. Trauma recovery is about the jabs, not the knockout blow; the mile by mile pace, not the sprint.

Most of that is contrary to how we've been conditioned, to this is your reminder: try softer. Do less. Manage THIS moment.

So far, from this Labour government, I am seeing:

Nationalism, disdain for human rights, scapegoating, controlled mass media, obsession with national security, religion & government intertwined, disdain for intellectuals, obsession with crime & punishment & rampant cronyism & corruption.

Have a read of this list, detailing the 14 points of fascism, and see if you think any of these points resonate.

Note that I did not say 'agreed', I said 'sympathised', which is a factual statement.

I'm not interested in being helpful to Labour, & my language is accurate and proportionate.

Can you explain why you think banning evidence based healthcare for trans children, resulting in at least one suicide so far, doesn't qualify as vicious?

Do you also agree with the proposed bathroom ban?

I'm sorry that you don't want to see it, but this Labour government is overtly racist, holds extreme anti-LGBTQ views, and is composed of religious extremists.

I don't like it either. But we don't get to wish away reality.
helenm40.bsky.social
Several Labour politicians, including the Prime Minister, sympathised with the racist thugs burning down hotels.

Mahmood is talking about retroactively abolishing ILTR. They've limited student visas. They're planning to change working visas.

Not to mention their vicious anti-LGBTQ policies.

In every possible way Labour's changes to immigration rules are profoundly stupid and damaging.
Not only will they ruin lives of migrants, they will cripple the economy, cost jobs, undermine crucial infrastructure etc etc. Everyone suffers with anti-immigration policies.

No, I think people just wanted a sensible, moderate party, and instead we've gotten Reform with a veneer of hypocrisy.
helenm40.bsky.social
Labour needs to stop caricturising the working class and stop trying to ape Reform.
helenm40.bsky.social
The bathroom bill, disability benefits cuts, retention of the 2 child cap, banning puberty blockers for ideological reasons, the new Section 28 in schools, increasing racist rhetoric, restriction of student visas, threats to scrap ILTR.

Would you like more examples?

Just looking through some stuff for research and this is what Labour said about the repeal of Section 28 in 2001.
The repeal of Section 28 of the 1988 Local Government Act was grossly misrepresented as an attempt to use teaching to promote particular lifestyles. We will ensure that such teaching continues to be prohibited based on the provisions of the Learning and Skills Act, while removing discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation.

Can I just say that in this current era of societal downfall, it is genuinely a great idea both for mental health AND apocalypse skill building, to join your local community farm and learn how to keep goats (and pigs and sheep and chickens)

Milking the goats most Sundays is just....joy

Given what they are doing to transgender people, particularly transgender children, I don't care.

None of that is worth children being harmed.
