"I followed this profile" reaction table (2d6)

Hostile
2- You're selling AI or investment opportunities
3- You're on BS to talk about US politics
4- You expect me to auto follow back

Unfriendly
5- You don't use alt-text
6- You haven't filled in your profile

This is actually true.

I've had someone think that they scored on me because AI fraud and scams are a use and therefore saying "AI is useless" is wrong.

There's no _legitimate_ uses just wasn't something they were capable of understanding. A disturbing level of amorality.

AI advocates, to a person, are literally unable to tell good from bad. When you say you can, they think you're *lying*.
urchinette.bsky.social
AI advocates fundamentally have no understanding of creativity and my God, it’s grim to behold. Even on the days when hitting my book’s wordcount target is like drawing blood from a stone, I don’t want a fucking machine to do it for me. And not just because the result would be soulless shit.
homebrewandhacking.bsky.social
I understand that we are not allowed to call them leashes or leads, but "reins".

Also, training "one hand on the car until we say go" with treats is good.

And I don't think children under 3 years old can conceptualise "no".

Challenging stuff.

A PhD in self-pwnage?

Wouldn't he have to be more entertaining to deliver a new and original form of cringeworthy behaviour? :-?

This is just low effort slop he's producing. No commitment to the bit, no engagement beyond yammer. Embarrassing but we've seen reply guys of better quality.

Put in different terms: a claim made without evidence can--and should--be dismissed out of hand.

You should always be training and fighting as though you're going to wallop someone.

There's shockingly little info on:
- situational awareness
- peripheral vision
- correct balanced stance
- using footwork
- pulling blows at static and moving targets

And most don't understand archery's danger.

And it was Pennington, M, who alerted me to:

A) the need for helmets
B) the use of wooden pole arms

In the eastern parts of Europe.

I'm prepared to believe Nat got beaned with a lagged replica. That's very on brand.
homebrewandhacking.bsky.social
I'd probably use it wrong

"At least she's no Mother Theresa!"
homebrewandhacking.bsky.social
Oh! I heard about that at Curious Pastimes in '99!

This feels kind of 13th Agey? I'd be intrigued to learn more!

I wonder if this is like "Polish rules" where you just wrap the longsword in gaffer tape and pipe lagging and call it good?

I'd rather not criticise women for not being perfect at all, if that's ok?
homebrewandhacking.bsky.social
People who live in the real world, those whose actions have irrevocable consequences especially, tend to be less laissez-faire about a slurrification device adding in random confabulations to their work.

The shocking part is that AI goons and billionaires think this is ok to foist onto people.
jujuliagrace.bsky.social
All of these articles from tech people and politicians saying that medics are resisting AI because of their egos are driving me mad.

How about it’s not their egos, it’s their intricate, nuanced understanding about how to safely manage risk for their patients? How about that?🚨
homebrewandhacking.bsky.social
Most licenced TTRPGs wildly underperform commercially as well.

Avatar did nearly 10 million USD. A lot of money... for TTRPGs. But Avatar the Last Airbender has two animated series, a live action film and TV series.

The Alien TTRPG has a decades long franchise and even then...

I already have a very strong brand of doing "woke" things like being opposed to bioessentialism and being impolite to people who think it's acceptable. Just makes me want to play the Giant robot games more.

And hating on AI and solving moral conundrums are two of my favourite things. 😀

So both!
homebrewandhacking.bsky.social
You can't scope, let alone build something you can't define.

And there's no definition of "general intelligence" not mired in racist pseudoscience.

I've only known that since the 00s.l because I read the mismeasure of man by Gould. Great book.
homebrewandhacking.bsky.social
Well, that's the issue, people keep assuring me that LLMs have this but that's neither my experience nor the science.

So I don't think people _do_ understand that "general intelligence" does NOT exist.
homebrewandhacking.bsky.social
I'd hope not. Although it would handily tell you that you and that person won't agree on important things, so you can just block them and move on with your life. 😀

Principled moral stands are nice to see in this day and age!
homebrewandhacking.bsky.social
The reification of g for general intelligence (treating an abstract concept as though it had a real measurable IRL existence) has been a problem for decades and has also been thoroughly discredited evidentially. But US racism persists in trying to make it happen.

(It's the basis for IQ tests.)
shannonvallor.bsky.social
Since it resonated with the audience, I’ll recap my main argument against AGI here. ‘General intelligence’ is like phlogiston, or the aether. It’s an outmoded scientific concept that does not refer to anything real. Any explanatory work it did can be done better by a richer scientific frame. 1/3
shannonvallor.bsky.social
This was a truly heartening day, with deeply thoughtful challenges to the dominant narrative framed around AGI, coming from across disciplines and perspectives. Felt like the tide might finally be turning a bit, at least among the scientific community. Thanks @royalsociety.org!

Another great blog from Brett Devereux.

This is part of a series looking at how peasants actually lived (and why they made these choices).

Certainly in terms of world- building, I'll now feel obliged to mention the sheer number of people doing spinning. #TTRPG

This is the fourth thread of the fourth part of our series (I, II, IIIa, IIIb, IVa, IVb, IVc) looking at the lives of pre-modern peasant farmers, who make up a majority of all of the humans who hav…

the "it's just a tool" thing is another example of this. Being *just a tool* is to fail as *intelligence*

Anything less than:

request: "do this"
result: "it is done perfectly"

is a failure

Replacing the search bar with the LLM as an *interface* to the documentation is an objective assertion that the LLM does not work.

The LLM promise is to be an oracle, not a librarian.
