every discussion i see on here that bears on banning gen ai in some fashion includes a code-is-speech guy who is like “good luck when anybody can run a model at home lol” and im like go for it. all 7 of you. ai would be relegated to a hobby on the level of say 3d printing

AI advocates fundamentally have no understanding of creativity and my God, it’s grim to behold. Even on the days when hitting my book’s wordcount target is like drawing blood from a stone, I don’t want a fucking machine to do it for me. And not just because the result would be soulless shit.

It’s interesting being the only person masking anymore because I’ve essentially taken my invisible disability and made it visible. So people all stare at me and whisper to each other. I now experience the world as a visibly disabled person and it’s informative.

I mean there was some novelty to the van Gogh Pikachu stuff but if it were actually useful for creative work, we'd have seen some by now. At the start I was like "sounds useful for generating like a 32x32 grass texture for blender", but it doesn't seem to be any good for that either

LLM AI exists to crush labour. That's not even my surmise, the people paying billions of dollars to fund this stuff are extremely open and explicit that this is their goal.

There are no ethical use cases for LLMs at this point in time. Maybe when the bubble has popped thoroughly. Not before.
