Kidnapped in international waters, extraordinary rendition to a genocidal state, and then imprisoned indefinitely.

You'd think this would trigger the immediate expulsion of the Israeli Ambassador for these inexcusable actions against an Australian citizen.

Me: (awesomely smart) let’s give the prize he wants to a notable opponent of that government the Trumpers have been very loudly talking about toppling and replacing (high fiving each other, minds visibly expanding, quivering with intellectual capacity) What’s the worst that could happen

The Nobel Peace Prize committee's decision to honour someone who has tirelessly campaigned against dictatorship is both worthwhile and welcome, and objectively very funny.

That said, giving it to someone who opposes noted Trump foe Maduro is also quite clever.

i have no opinions about the prize recipient, but she has been advocating more trump action with respect to her country. And of course that doesn't mean invasion or bombing, but it does mean "someone stupid enough to think donald trump can be of help"

"hypogonadotropic hypogonadism" means your gonads produce less of their sex hormones, which is what hormone blockers are for by the way.

This guy is telling you a secondary effect of paracetamol involves an increased amount of acetaminophen in the body.

This somehow is supposed to be an undesired secondary effect of putting trans men on testosterone. Leor Sarpir is the reason why we differenciate between doctors (PhD), which he is, and doctors (MD), which he isn't.

Hyperandrogenism: when you're too masculine for the norm
Iatropic: when your state is caused by treatment

What Leor is saying here is that if you put a trans man on testosterone, he will look more like a man than the average cis woman, and that this will be caused by the testosterone he's taking.

There is a caveat to this.

When adolescents without physical pathology are given puberty blockers (GnRHa) or cross-sex hormones at levels recommended by the Endocrine Society for purposes of gender transition, they are likely to develop endocrine disorders.

For example, using GnRHa leads to hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, which can have adverse impacts on physical development.

If an endocrinologist prescribes testosterone to a teen girl far outside the reference range that is normal for females of her age, he will be putting her in a state of iatrogenic hyperandrogenism--an endocrine disorder.

One thing social media really is quite helpful for is tattooing politicians with the logos of the various corporate interests that they tacitly work for, and will openly work for after they leave politics.

i think the fundamental disconnect here, and i say this as an engineer without much creative talent, is that a lot of people who don't do creative things regularly (or ever) look at creative output (writing, music, whatever) as a product, and consume and experience it like a baby looking at a mobile

Yeah I dunno, maybe if I was creating a government document I might hide the fact I’d used ChatGPT to find the information.

aside from the current meta-conversation this is entirely true within companies too.

I've seen teams with incredible tech get routed around by the rest of the company because they are so convinced of their own master plan that they stop listening to what users actually need.

tbh i can tell when someone has limited experience in the FOSS space because they often treat the userbase as an annoying burden instead of building out mechanisms to make sure they have a seat at the table.

the internet is riddled with graveyards of FOSS projects that egotrip lowtaxed themselves.
