Tell a human to speak a wish to the air, and how often they will tell you what they *want* instead. “Want” is a self defense mechanism adapted by a calcified human ego to preserve its present state; deployed against the *wish* that expands the soul past the conditions of humanity.

One of my favorite things to do as a GM is to give players context-free heads-up about things that will happen to their characters in the upcoming session; they prewrite their characters' reaction, so when the moment comes they bust out some real grimdark soliloquy, some real Ahab type beats.

So to be clear, ICE Agents:

-Attack priests
-Cannot stand to be near a monstrance or holy procession
-Deny their prisoners the Eucharist & other holy rites
-Refuse to identify themselves because knowing their name & face gives you power over them

I like it when my friends are into kids’ cartoons or superheroes or whatever. I try to let them enjoy that and avoid getting stunlocked by the structural fascism of whatever. I like knowing that even though my brain has been ruined by forbidden knowledge, other people are having a good time.

These are classic books which anyone can read, from across the last two centuries; each one has a message which has stuck with me for decades.

For advanced readers I recommend Blood Meridian.

Furthermore you should read classic literature, it's classic for a reason, usually because it's good and timeless and speaks to something we all deal with.

I've seen people say they don't need to read the classics because it's "all written by rich old white guys". This is wrong and makes you dumb.

If you want to write a really good story you need to be at least a kind-of-interesting person who knows some things about the world; you can't just become a good writer by reading some good books. You need to go weird places, meet sketchy people, make questionable decisions, and learn harsh lessons.
