I once had to ship a game using Notepad++ as a level editor. Levels would break daily because artists would move origin points and coders didn’t care if we had to repeat the work. Ever since then I’ve fought to protect my toolchain and work pipeline. It shouldn’t be miserable to make things fun.
Lots of leadership loves talking about iteration and being agile, but when you need to put effort into making workflows fast, suddenly there’s no time available.
The cure is simple: Sit behind someone who is actually doing the work. If their tools are bad you’ll get frustrated in minutes.

I think most game dev teams underestimate how damaging slow workflows are to the ultimate quality of their game.
If it takes 5 minutes to launch the game and see your changes, I think your game is going to be MUCH worse than the alternate timeline where it took 1 minute

Hell, on a smaller note of that, it extended to my interactions with corporate people at work. They were dicks behind the scenes, especially to the GM of the store, but the DMs were always nice to me. I got fooled into thinking they were good based on how good they were to me.
