New article time!

This one's about Planescape: Torment. I was commissioned to cover it, so I have. I was... disappointed to find I didn't really like the game. I tried not to be too mean, but I really, really disliked this game's treatment off women.

In the '60s, an all-star team of Soviet artists assembled -- including Yuri Norstein. Together, they crafted a gentle, quiet gem called The Mitten.

It's lovely stop motion, and it laid the groundwork for the team's later Cheburashka. We explore: animationobsessive.substack.com/p/a-film-for...

Fantastic writeups from Doc here, and I'm super glad to find someone who shares my exact opinion on Dragon's Dogma 2. For all the narrative shortcomings of the game, it sets up the themes of its finale masterfully and really nails that final bit.

USian trans people are telling you they won't vote for Gavin Newsom so you don't vote for his transphobic ass in the primaries.

They are giving you actionable information.

DHS said that the woman CBP shot in the chest in Portland was “involved” in a gang shooting.

Her ~involvement~ was that suspected gang members sexually assaulted and robbed her.
After Border Patrol shot two people in Portland, DHS claimed they were "vicious gang members" tied to a past shooting.

But records I obtained reveal a US prosecutor has since directly contradicted DHS, saying, "We're not suggesting he is a gang member." My dive into how DHS' claims have collapsed:
DHS’s account of two Venezuelans shot by border patrol falls apart in court: ‘A smear campaign’
Immigration officials said agent shot two ‘vicious gang members’ in Portland, but records obtained by the Guardian reveal US prosecutor contradicted claims

I’ll focus on the least significant of these: Melania. There is zero chance anyone at MGM could have thought this would make its money back. Keeping it in theaters for a second week is the definition of good money after bad and suggests they have arm-twisted exhibitors.

When Dems throw 🏳️‍⚧️ under the bus they are defining themselves as useless bigots that are not opposing republicans. Newsom is a full no, & has been forever. Stop trying to make bigot happen. What you are doing here is saying “yeah, go with Republicans policies in a blue suit”. No Nazi’s in the tent
We're never gonna get the microphone back if we trash every candidate. And, yes, there's something to trash with every candidate... I'm just saying that we need to not let them define our big tent as one issue.

when you define your ethics by "I should do what most people don't want me to do"

you definitionally position yourself so your only real value is getting attention from the majority of people who think you're wrong

which means you can never make a moral choice for yourself ever again

I am literally a produced screenwriter, even though it might be a kids show. I love dialogue. But I also like when characters express themselves through doing rather than talking. Philosophy & identity is expressed through daily life not just exposition of opinion and rhetoric.
Life is in the doing.

I love talking in rpgs but you're also, for the most part in modern games, in a 3d space. You should use the 3d space and the gameplay experiences you can build out of that opportunity as part of the roleplaying experience.
Cyberpunk does this exceptionally well. But also has a strong narrative too
