*Fare-Free Strike*

The basically-unknown union action that is illegal all over the world and yet incredibly popular when workers decide to do it anyway (illegally.)

Here's what it is and why I think @zackpolanski.bsky.social and @greenparty.org.uk should add it to their manifesto...

A thread🧵

God it’s like coming up for air.

How long since somebody didn’t just role over at hateful attacks on trans people that only exist to distract from inequality and divide us.

Solidarity with all trans and intersex people having their existence debated every time a tv host hasn't done their prep and can't think of any more questions

It gets tricky when something relies on many people along the way and systems like post where lots is automated unfortunately. just takes one non-striker to ruin it.

As much as I love this action, it’s hard to expand to other sectors. Would love if anybody knows of other creative options though?

For bus drivers, each strike is a fight between hurting the company and being hated by the public.

The gift of this action is the service is free and fast so public *love* it, and it hurts the company because all the costs with no income.

It also opens the public’s mind to universal basic services
huckfling.bsky.social
I can see the logic, but as somebody organising in a union it makes it less likely to happen.

There’s a reason none of the articles referenced UK examples. To be clear it’s not an action that‘s Criminalised, it’s just not protected.

So all those workers can just be fired for breach of contract.
huckfling.bsky.social
Sadly it’s limited to services (like buses etc.) where workers control payment, not goods. Otherwise yeah just becomes theft ahaha.

It’s been bus drivers, but service workers like hairdressers paid wages could.

Opening a convo on creative ways to broaden worker’s toolkits. Can you think of others?

Most of their leftist policies are oooooold, they just started messaging differently recently (wealth tax old, nationalisation old etc)

Should care more about substance than presentation, especially when the presentation finally caught up

Plus it’s fully democratic, so join and shape it

This is cheeky, but at this point doesn't the left unify through Greens?

Abolish landlords

Wealth tax

Nationalise water, trains, buses, energy, health

Proscribe the IDF

Unwaveringly pro-trans

Pro-migration

Amazing comms

Near-total unity

Fully democratic

2% behind Labour

Booming membership
Polls showing Greens on 15% just behind Labour on 17% Green membership graph line basically vertically up Greens vote to abolish landlords Greens vote to proscribe IDF

Lets make different political choices says Zack Polanski.

Like taxing billionaires instead of blaming poor people.

Latest poll puts Greens just two points behind Labour. When I said we weren't here to be disappointed in Labour but to replace them, I meant it.

Perhaps the bbc will report on the green surge with the same enthusiasm with which they promoted farage?

Once greens slip ahead of Labour, their whole “don’t let reform in” argument flips and the bubble pops

People realise that they can both vote how they want *and* that’s the best way to keep reform out

(Besides what’s the point of keeping Labour if they just copy reform anyway)

Yeah but at least he’s electable, unlike Corbyn, because of all his sensible centrist policies…

@greenparty.org.uk growing by 1,000 members every day 📈

that means we overtake the dying Tories on November 11th 🗓️

Next step Reform, then @teamlabouruk.bsky.social 🥀 💀

Don’t let the momentum die. The time for left wing unity is now 💪🤝

As hopeful as I was for Your Party,
@greenparty.org.uk will Abolish Landlords whilst YP are led by them 🏡

Greens unanimously voted for Trans healthcare reform whilst YP risk abandoning trans people 🏳️‍⚧️

Greens are already one member one vote, so anything you don’t like you can vote to change 🗳️
