it would make a difference of 2 inches depending whether I use US seam allowances vs this
hyperplanes.bsky.social
ok, measuring the pattern pieces and squinting really hard makes me think it's probably supposed to be half-inch seam allowances, which is less than a typical commercial pattern in the US

If I had not already sewing a few suits I'd have no idea what to do. I'm actually wondering if this pattern is useful at all, I've drafted my own patterns before and like, is that actually more work than trying to use this one, idk

some other issues I notice: no darts, I'm on my own to figure out my own darts. There's no lining pattern pieces. It doesn't say whether seam allowances are included and if so how large they are. There's no interfacing pieces. No undercollar. No facing pieces.

I think "front placket" must refer to the lapels. On older suit styles the lapel (and a row of button holes) were frequently a separate strip of fabric. I guess this is vaguely similar to how "placket" is used for the front strip on a dress shirt

possibly because the instructions were written for a different style of suit entirely. Why skimp on instructions? Is this not the easiest, cheapest part of the pattern to produce
hyperplanes.bsky.social
I've sewn enough suits to know this is not enough pattern pieces to make a suit. Also what is a "front placket" there are plackets in the back and on the sleeves, "front placket" is not a thing. I've read the instructions and it makes no mention at all.

you have to imagine it in Alan Rickman's voice

I have this box of griffin buttons that as far as I know is the entire global supply, so when I get to the end of a sewing project I'm like, this project, is it worthy of griffin buttons?

This is one reason I yell at leftists about state government. A third party bid for POTUS is literally meaningless. If you're not competitive in conservative leaning states your whole political project is in serious jeopardy, as democrats are finding out

the thing that prevented a coup attempt in 2008 or 2012 was not any amount of restraint from republicans but the fact that they did not control enough state houses to assemble the required number of fake electors.
hyperplanes.bsky.social
the thing I try to point out is that republicans attempted a coup at the very first opportunity, and if that opportunity exists again in 4 or 8 years they absolutely will do it again, and it will probably work bsky.app/profile/jonm...

"My real age was 10 years younger so I can afford to pig out on this entire box of donuts" that's the actual real world impact this fad has
hyperplanes.bsky.social
The idea that you can have a health age different from your actual age has no scientific basis, and in practice...have you noticed how everyone's "real age" is less than their actual age? In practice it's a cope people use to justify unhealthy behaviors.
hyperplanes.bsky.social
not legal advice but I think the fact of being free means there's no health department rules. But also like as long as it's made of pure sugar there's essentially no food borne illness risk

I'm pretty good at making caramel. Hard candies and lollipops are pretty easy. I can make taffy though nobody likes taffy. I can make some things in chocolate though I'm not the best chocolatier
hyperplanes.bsky.social
if it weren't for the fact they'd accuse me of trying to poison kids on nextdoor dot com I'd definitely hand out homemade candy instead of store bought on halloween

I think I do know why, which is that ad targeting doesn't exist to help advertisers reach audiences, it is a scam to help platforms extract money from advertisers. So none of it actually works and there's no incentive for the platforms to fix it.
hyperplanes.bsky.social
using a VPN with youtube produces very weird results. I'm seeing normal ads for local things that clearly depict americans in them, they're obviously still doing ad targeting, but the language is dutch. I'm logged in as myself and yet it's in dutch, why?

separately from the firing itself, whatever resourced were commandeered to engage in this "coding error" was also illegal. Firing people is not an essential service, it is totally illegal for OMB to be engaging in this kind of activity during a shutdown bsky.app/profile/aaro...

Dress shirts have a specific type of button though, are those sold in sensible quantities? The number on a men's dress shirt depends on size but the bell curve peaks at 11-12 buttons. They are sold in packs of 5 and the store usually only puts 2 out at a time, not even enough for one (1) shirt
