fiction is a safe space to think of unsafe things

if you feel it's messing you up, step away. don't assume it's messing everyone up and you need to eradicate it because you caught a case of the feel-bads from something. go sit with that and think about why instead of pissing in everyone else's cheerios.

Then he basically had his lawyer send C&D to shit like Walmart. Lawyer sent C&D to Etsy artist because they didn't know Etsy stores were independiently ran. Guy talked to his lawyer and no independient artist has gotten a C&D since then.

genAI is so good nowadays that we're all gonna get got eventually, but being told/shown over and over that you're disseminating a lie, and just ignoring people who point it out, is a serious red flag.

I am not saying that machine learning moderation models are perfect or never make mistakes -- they obviously do -- but they do so at a much lower rate than human beings *in certain areas*, and running a ML model to classify all images is significantly less biased than human reporting.

People once again need to internalize that "generative AI" is a small subset of machine learning, that machine learning is a critical tool that you cannot run a site without past a certain volume Bluesky has long since exceeded, and that it is FAR more reliable than user reporting.

re: that one post I made about spotify, which evidently resonated because people keep bringing it back

I think it's cool that people still pass around that post I wrote about how paid streaming services don't actually directly pay musicians all that much compared to the cut they take, but I kind of hate that people interpreted that stance as "you're robbing from artists if you don't cough up directly"

like the actual point there was more that, if you're paying for streaming services because you assume they're inherently the moral high road over piracy (because you're spending money and the pirates aren't), you're paying for a good feeling and not much else

piracy is morally neutral, there is no moral weight to not spending money, spotify spent its majority cut of your subscription money on the development of military drones to terrorise people just like you in cities you'll never hear the names of, so on so forth
