For people who have executive dysfunction, chatgpt is to their executive functioning what a sledgehammer is to a nail.

It is the exact *opposite* of a disability aid.

It *induces* executive dysfunction by turning tasks into tasks where every smallest detail must be checked, edited, analyze for "is this just fucking nonsense?" Etc.

People *without* executive dysfunction are finding that using chatgpt buries them under multitasking: they have to expend more effort and attention in more tasks to check that it hasn't outputted *absolute fucking nonsense*

Drake sitting there reading about how good the judge thought the song was and how everyone really enjoyed it
The song contains lyrics explicitly accusing Drake of being a pedophile, set to a catchy beat and propulsive
bassline. "Not Like Us" went on to become a cultural sensation.

I cant believe the Bengals traded for Joe Flacco

That is the disconnect because I'm addressing the idea that parents *not* reading to their children is what is driving backsliding in children's literacy.

I group them in with administration but you're right.

You’re not poor because you’re bad with money, you’re poor because everything is too expensive and your job doesn’t pay enough.

A teacher isnt the "school system". A school system comprises the teachers, the administration, the laws/regulations, the funding apparatus, the institutions that train teachers, the buildings, the equipment etc etc.

Family literacy programs exist because literacy is a *skill* and like any other skill it is *very* difficult to teach yourself well. Many parents need literacy education right along side their children and that should be supported.
shimminykricket.bsky.social
I'm essentially saying reading and literacy teacher exist for reason. And if people could *acquire* or enhance their skills without them just armed with books alone, they'd be redundant. I dont believe that to be the case.
shimminykricket.bsky.social
You're conflating lacking the skill with having poor skills. As you pointed out, this two different things. You have to possess the skill to refine the skill. I'm challenging the assertion that reading is simple enough a skill that a poorly trained person is likely to improve it on their own.
shimminykricket.bsky.social
That's my point. Reading is a skill that is refined by practice. If you didnt acquire the skill, you need someone to teach *you* which makes you ill equipped to assist your children. That's why no public educational system that depends on the education of parents can be considered a good one.

I finally had the time to read Dr. Butler's book, "White Evangelical Racism," this summer. One of the best and most insightful reads this year.

If you dont even need to know how to read yourself to teach other people, particularly children, how to read why pay the teachers?

The only healthcare plan better and more affordable than Obamacare is universal healthcare. Republicans know they’ve got nothing.
