The best part about where the area I used to live in before in Antwerp was the fact that there were a LOT of (wine) bars and cafes dotted around the neighbourhood, all of which were open until 2 am every single day. Made walking back home late at night far less lonely tbh.

(I'm actually broadly agnostic on the issue myself, I should add, though I'll say that amazingly there are many countries where it doesn't become impossible to have a weeknight drink at 11pm on the dot and you know, we haven't all died from it)

feels quite Guardian that this piece doesn't present the move as good news or even neutral news but instead spends about two thirds of its copy running through every single possible reason why a maybe fun thing will be TERRIBLE and AWFUL www.theguardian.com/business/202...

ok I don't *need* any physical TTRPG paraphernalia until I live in London and can actually get a bunch of people together IRL to play it, but I would still like to get a dice tray

my in-laws were genuinely shocked that I, an English person, could not simply come and work in the United States at will.

Believe it or not, this is only the second most naive and clueless thing I've been told about the immigration system. Number one belongs to my own mother, who was so insulated by my dad that she actually asked me "can't I just bring a relative from Brazil to help me care for the house?"

They don't. I had a coworker go to Brazil, fall in love, and naively walk in to the consulate to try to get his GF a visa. When he got home I told him "that was the dumbest possible thing to do."
