Why does Global Normie YouTube look like Fortnite map thumbnails?
indiegameclinic.bsky.social
This is what people send me as their portfolio when they want me to pay them for thumbnail design. I mean, I am usually quite shit at this, but I’m not asking someone else to pay me to do it for them.
Graphic design is my passion

And I say this as someone who absolutely loved C77. I think it’s at its best when it’s rollicking through pop culture sub genres; you have your Silence of the Lambs pal and your rocksploitstion pal; all of that is the best stuff IMO.

The descriptions of people and places in the second two Sprawl Trilogy books (flawed I know) are still more interesting than most big budget cyberpunk games from the last decade.

The thing I really didn’t like about Cyberpunk 2077 is just how committed to the bit everyone is. You’re telling me there’s not a single theme bar in the whole city where the theme isn’t 80s retro futurism? No Great Gatsby parties with nu-swing? No-one’s just, aesthetically speaking, not into cyber?

Just fucking at me next time, “Don’t Worry Winnicott”. If that is your real name.
Winnicot quote: artists are people driven by the tension between the desire to communicate and the desire to hide.

Everyone in the house has a cold. Will still be streaming 10-2 GMT but probably batting the mic away every time I need to make a disgusting nose noise.

It’s very hard to render a Cthulhu in a way which looks unique to the project, but this does! Make sure there’s something clearly block related in there too.

my friend told me that his partner's phrase for when he's being anxious about these kind of things is "shy boys get no chocolate", and I really like that one.

I made the fungal blocks a lot more colourful, which looked cool and pretty/gross, but also stopped them looking unified. Now there's a dark red shader over the blockers further away while the closer ones reveal the colours in the pixel art. seems like a neat compromise.

I have a pretty good idea of what I would put in a games museum and the other things I would use it for… I just need to talk to someone who has done anything even mildly similar.

Entering my “why not just ask” era (asked some local museum folk what the process of opening and operating a ‘museum of play’ might look like, and do they want to help)

Listening to the Uzumaki episodes of Shelved by Genre on @rangedtouch.bsky.social while I make my deranged cosy horror game. Perfect combo.

having a lot of fun with shaders to create stronger sense of threat in red rooms. also downsampling on the posterise effect the more health you lose.

“We make a thing a way and it sells millions of copies”

“Ok time to retool, so we can do it a completely different way, in order to sell copies to… people who would buy it even if we hadn’t done that”

When people complain that Starfield had loading screens and wasn’t a completely new engine it stops being a games literacy thing and more like “have you ever worked at a company” or “do you understand the basics of trade and industry”

The book we are covering this month for Game Developers Library is pretty helpful but also contains a few too many Peter Thiel quotes (ie more than none)
