When people complain that Starfield had loading screens and wasn’t a completely new engine it stops being a games literacy thing and more like “have you ever worked at a company” or “do you understand the basics of trade and industry”

The thing which keeps getting me about programming is you usually know the method already but you go “oh it can’t be that, that’s too simple/too complex” and so you avoid doing it that way for ages, but then realise that way was the way.

Did a lot of game optimisations this week. Turns out when you have 500 blocks and they are all tracking player distance you might need to time slice it.

I quite liked the silly god of war combat and environment puzzles, and the locations and seeing more of the world. But the story felt like it was designed in a spreadsheet. Every companion has a similar arc. If you romance them in parallel, the similarity of the arcs becomes even more ridiculous.

The portfolio needs to be a good balance of showing something you did and explaining it. Both skills are important. My first folio was a grab bag of small videogames, card games (photographs from playtests), and a design blog.
