I bet this has to do with a Trump Organization project to build a theme park, a luxury hotel, and residential homes in Indonesia. In 2018, we learned the Chinese government was an investor. Earlier this year, Indonesia halted the project over environmental concerns.

I don't understand why U.S. reporters so regularly seem to let politicians get away with 'I haven't seen that' about stuff a) they obviously know and b) is directly relevant to their job. Did they sign some kind of agreement never to ask a follow-up question?

Hauling them in front of congress is useless. You have to haul them in front of a judge and jury to see any consquences. And then you have to hope to hell the judge imposes consequences that have any impact.
