The US media treatment of this question is bizarre, as European correspondents I work with regularly note: when American media talk about "Christians" they mean white Evangelicals, and particularly Christian Nationalists, who are a
Donald Trump is trying to crush a religious uprising against him

Similar to @normative.bsky.social said in a quote the most extreme religious groups are always treated as the most authentic. Salafism, Twelver Shi’a, Hindu nationalism, etc are most authentic (and bad), Christian nationalism is most authentic and must be respected. No room for nuance. Frustrating.

"We did not rush into that church. We actually went and sat down and participated in the service. And after the pastor prayed, that is when I stood up and asked him a question in response to his prayer...We didn’t bust in. We were a part of the service until I got up and posed that question...”
Trump's attempt to crush a religious uprising might be obvious if the press corps treated everyone’s faith as equally authentic, hence equally legitimate. It doesn’t.

At the National Prayer Breakfast, Trump actually took credit for the Bible being a bestseller. 🤷‍♀️

How Worried Should Democrats Be About Trump Stealing the Next Election?
Trump is again talking about controlling and stealing elections. History suggests Democrats should worry—but not panic.

Trump is racist as hell and is surrounded by people who are even more racist than him. But he’s also implicated in the Epstein Files and is desperate to use any tool he has to distract people from that.

So I’m expecting him to drop the N-word any day now. Will buy him another 24 hours of diversion.
President Trump shared a video on his social media account overnight that depicted the first black president as an ape.

The question isn't whether an evil man will be evil. It's what good people will do in the face of it. TOO MANY people still want to overlook the obvious. They find all kinds of ways to explain why he's not really evil. They are the problem.
1. It was not an accident.
2. It was not a staffer.
3. While the president may have dementia his racism is not due to dementia.
4. He isn’t sorry. He means every racist thought he shares.
5. His base agrees with him.
6. He will do it again.
7. No one in power will hold him accountable.

The fact that Epstein had ties to the scientific community is not news, but the enormous cache of documents released by the DOJ last week was still startling. It showed just how deeply Epstein was involved—how many were in his orbit, and how deeply involved he was with some research.

My reporting:
Epstein files reveal deeper ties to scientists than previously known
Latest batch of documents show researchers consulting the financier and sex offender on publications, visas and more.

I'm old enough to remember when Trump was accusing the Clintons of forging the Epstein files. Now he's "bothered' that Comer is going after them.
Why Trump Is Suddenly “Bothered” by Clintons Testifying on Epstein
Republicans are the ones leading the investigation—but President Trump is still worried about what it means for him.

Luttig says SCOTUS is illegitimate.
Luttig: It doesn’t matter what the Supreme Court does from this point forward. For two years, the Supreme Court has authorized the absolute lawlessness and unconstitutional activity of this president.

I think it's important for white liberals not affirm the bad faith of Republicans by acting like this is shocking. It's not shocking, but expressing shock, even if you are genuinely shocked, actually helps Republicans cover their asses. So be mindful.

Three thoughts.

1. It’s always been about the white nationalism

2. He is returning to the old favorites because his support is waning

3. He dabbled with this trope before but would always leave a hair of deniability. Going straight there also seems like a sign of weakness
